| ID Tag for small Yorkie? Hey Everyone, I've searched the forum but couldn't find this question anywhere, so I'll go ahead and ask it. My wife and I have a Yorkie on the way and are looking for a tag (to engrave with name, phone #, etc) to put on her collar, so we can have it ready when we get her. We are a bit worried that a metal tag will be too heavy for the puppy, at least at first, so we were looking at plastic ones. Is there any reason to worry? I'm about 50% sure we're out to lunch on this one. Their necks are so incredibly small, we don't want to hurt her, but at the same time I'm not comfortable with leaving her tag-less at all. Do you guys put metal tags on puppies when you first get them? Thanks so much for reading. |

| plastic breaks easy and you can't really engrave. any writing on plastic will disappear pretty quickly from ultraviolet degradation. I use Red Dingo tags. They are priced VERY reasonable. The small ones are the size of a dime. Extremely light weight. Enamel and metal, stand up to most anything and last forever and their engraving is very well done. Their shipping is fast. Just google Red Dingo dog tags and you'll find numerous vendors. My babies started wearing theirs when they weighed about 2lbs and wear them 24/7. You can pick your design and color, etc... Congratulations!!! p.s. microchipping is also important!

| we also use a red dingo tag. i know i have a picture of it but i cant find it if no one posts one ill take a pic later and post for you. i love mine i got it when Gatsby was 8 weeks old and he wears it everyday it only holds name and phone number so if you want more you will have to get a different tag. the come in a speedy manner and are guaranteed for life which means if puppy's chew them like mine did they will replace them

| I got a small(1") aluminum heart shaped one at pet supermarket because they were willing to engrave both sides, so even tho it is small its got a lot of info on it, we also had to put a bell on her collar once she was allowed free roam (we miss the bell when she has it off for a bath and I notice the kids pop it back on her, 5 people and 1 little dog....). I also put her name and ph# on the underside of her collar and harness with a sharpie marker when I first got her. |

| Try terrificpets.com. I ordered from them. It's fast and they will engrave on both sides. :-) |

| I get mine made at Petsmart. They have a machine that engraves them there on the spot (you do it yourself but it is easy to do and Petsmart will show you how). I've been very happy with the ones I have gotten. They are lightweight and come in different sizes so you can pick a small one for your little one. They run around $7-9 each. |

| I also got my tag from Petsmart. Being Pixie doesn't wear a collar I have placed the tag on her harness along with her rabies tag. It works out very will and she doesn't even notice it.

| Thanks very much for all the guidance. Apparently at her insistance, this morning my mother-in-law ordered us one like they used for their puppy, so that's one less thing I have to worry about in the coming weeks! I believe it's a kind of hard plastic (like a guitar pick is how I picture it?) which apparently is pretty durable, but I think I'll get a back up or two just in case when we decide on one (I planned on having extras anyway). The Red Dingo ones are amazing, and I love those little leash clips. Thanks again!! |

| Tiny tag Try LuckyPet.com. The collar one works well. Very small, fits on collar, and doesn't get in the way. I think it's the pink/purple one in the picture on the website. Both my yorkies have them and it even fit perfectly when I brought my 8 oz baby girl home. They send it to you fast too. |

| I got a plastic one for my foster with her picture on the front and her name and phone numbers on the back. It's beautiful, lightweight and very, very strong. I don't see it ever breaking. | Also, you may want to give some thought to what you put on the tag. Some people put their pet's name. Some people don't want anyone to be able to familiarize themself with the pet (in case of kidnapping). Some don't put a home address for fear that someone may see it at some point in time and then know where the puppy lives for a later evil purpose. A lot of owners are paranoid, and for good reason. Some put only a phone number and the owner's name. Some put that the dog needs medication so anyone picking up the dog will think it is sickly and not want to keep it. Many reasons for many different things. Just saying you may want to think about what you want engraved before you have it done. Also, some tags have a cheap coating that dogs can chew off. My dogs have their dingos and then the city tags are larger and aluminum cheap things that the girls like to get in their mouths and chew on. I just hope it's not lead based because they have chewed and flaked the paint off of them something horrible. The dingos are so small and dainty they can't get them in their mouths. It's just their lousy city license!!! LOL

| I got my babies tags from www.boomerangtags.com They have a metal tag that actually slides onto the collar so it is not hanging. My babies do very well with them.

| Rather than a bell, believe it or not, I kinda like the jingle of at least 2 tags. Lets me know where they are in the dark. They love their collar and tags. They act nekkid without 'em. Beg to have them back on after a bath. Although, I've seen those slide on ones and think they are kinda neat for their purpose. So many decisions, eh?
