[News] 'Frou Frou' Dogs like Yorkies More Likely in Higher Income Households Before we got Yoda, I always hear about little old ladies with them... If anyone takes their Yorkie to the pet resort, please give us a review. :P --- And the higher-income households are home to more "frou frou" type dogs - the Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers and Bichon Frise, which are among the most popular breeds for those who earn $100,000 or more, but scarce in households that earn less than $25,000. Experts say it makes sense: the more fur, the more upkeep, the more money. "We see a lot of standard poodles," said Marcia Zuger, kennel manager at Applewood Pet Resort in Paradise Valley. "That's a really high-maintenance dog to have. There's a grooming commitment." The resort caters to the pampered pet, offering suites with color televisions, a bone-shaped swimming pool and frozen yogurt treats. Zuger said some poodle owners bring their dogs to the beauty parlor every week. http://www.azcentral.com/families/ar...9fam_dogs.html |
ha I earn less than 25,000 a year and I own a frou frou dog. my wonderfull wonderfull yorkie baby oliver. hahahaha I have out witted the systom |
I don't think it's about money at all, just that in most cases, only older people have enough time for Yorkies, or something... I think there's more upkeep in having a small indoor dog. :P |

Otis's poop is like a tootsie roll, and for his exercise, I just chase him around the room or give him a kleenex to shred. There is more fun in dressing small dogs up than a giant dog, and maybe that's why people label Yorkies as "frou-frou." |
Hmm, maybe only "snobby" old ladies have Yorkies then. Or snobby youngs women. hahah... j/k, j/k, I don't wanna sleep on the couch tonight! |

That is interesting. Also, interesting because the first post was in 2004! In addition - love the phrase "frou frou." |

Very interesting, I do know that it's expensive just taking care of the little ones, but so worth it for the joy that you get from them. |
That article gave me a chuckle.... I bought a lil cottage two years ago & I have a yorkie named ZoE. The people who built the house, had beautiful show poodles. In between the original owner/builders and me there was a couple with a rottweiler that they kept in a kennel in the back yard. The neighbours made a point to tell me about them and how they knew from the kind of dog they had, that they just weren't going to fit in. |
Walking a yorkie is a sure fire "chick" magnet for guys. Even an old dude like me has women stopping and fawning over Bailey when we walk the trail by the river. Of course, they don't look at me . . . . ;) |
