| [News] Seven Dogs Stolen from York Woman This happened just a short distance from where I live: Seven dogs stolen from York woman Daily Record/Sunday News Article Launched: 08/16/2007 09:48:48 AM EDT By MIKE HOOVER Daily Record/Sunday News Aug 17, 2007 — Sylvia Grovell immediately sensed something was wrong when she returned home Wednesday after shopping for a playpen for her four newborn Yorkshire terriers. She couldn't get the key into the lock of a door at her home in the 900 block of West Princess Street in York. Grovell noticed it was eerily quiet inside. She didn't hear the normal barking from her dogs when she comes home. She then discovered someone took a dog cage from her kitchen with the three-week-old puppies and their mother, Sarah, inside. The puppies' father, Buster, and Delilah, a Yorkshire-Chihuahua mix, were also taken from a second cage. "I feel violated. I feel like someone stole my children," said the 57-year-old city woman. "I am a victim of evil and wicked people who want what they want. If they can't get it, they just take it." Grovell is worried. The puppies are still nursing from their mother. The mother needs a special mix of dog food and vitamins. Grovell is concerned that whoever took the dogs will not know how to care for the puppies or the nursing mother. "The puppies can die," Grovell said. "They have to be handled with tender, loving care." Buster is also very protective, Grovell said. As indicated by the dog food and pet toys inside the cage, Buster did not go quietly, she said. Buster fought his captors and probably bit them a few times, she said. This is the first time Grovell bred Yorkies - a popular and expensive breed that can get more than $1,000 a puppy. She had planned to sell the girls for $600 each, the boys for $500. The dogs were clearly the target, Grovell said, because nothing else in the house was taken. The thieves also left behind the food, dog leashes and dog toys. "They want to get some quick money and sell them," Grovell said. The landlord planned to replace the door, splintered and broken by the thieves to get inside Grovell's home. Grovell said she loves her dogs more than she is angry at the people who took them. She said she is willing to drop the matter with city police, if the dogs are returned safely. "Your dogs are like your family. When you come home, they run around and are happy to see you," Grovell said. "I just want my dogs back. I love them. I miss them. They are my babies." . 20070817__0958525200_007_DOGS0817_190668~1_Gallery.jpg. var requestedWidth = 0; if(requestedWidth > 0){ document.getElementById('articleViewerGroup').styl e.width = requestedWidth + "px"; document.getElementById('articleViewerGroup').styl e.margin = "0px 0px 10px 10px"; }

| This is getting sickening I hate seeing that more & more of these crimes are happening! It really makes me feel super cautious. Maybe we all need to think of things that we can do to make our homes a little safer for our pets. 1. No "telltale" signs like Yorkie flags or signs by the door. 2. We have a glass front door..... I now put something in the way of it to "shadow" the dogs so people can't see them when they come to the door. I have a few more (but they are obvious ones).... I, also will watch my back at Petstores and also in public.....( and also try to note if anyone else is being targeted while I am there).... It is good for us to watch out for eachother, too!!!

| this makes me so mad! Some people are just so sick and evil. Those poor babies and the owner. I would die I Just know it...I had all my pups out in the backyard one day last week and these two ladies were driving down my alley (after already driving by on the street) and I sort of walked out there and the one rolled down her window and said "wow,, those are beautiful puppies".... I nodded my head sort of and it took me about 30 seconds to grab them all up and get back into the house. It was just wierd..and she was wierd..

| Hopefully she will get them back. The criminals here in York City tend to not be of the "mastermind" category and will probably try to sell them locally...and will hopefully get caught. I am sure it was someone she knew personally that was aware of how much the puppies would sell for. |

With all the threads on YT about stolen Yorkies, I have resolved myself that no matter how cute a yorkie sign, etc. is - I will not buy it. I don't want to be parnoid about taking the dogs out, but I do question it now. I recently walked the dogs at night - after it was dark and I was freaking out every time a car seemed to be driving too slow - thinking how easy it would be for someone to overcome me & take the dogs. But just not in the dark, I worry that others know I have these babies & they might want them

| As long as we have Ivan I believe that no one would dare come into our house or yard to take Cassie and Adie. We should have him for a good long time to come since he just turned 6. But what about when he goes? My husband and will not be able to handle a big dog anymore! Before we got Ivan we had a 13 or 14 year old boy walk right in to our back door whistling for Cassie. He didn't know my husband was home. DH grabbed this kid by the collar whirled him around and honestly threatened to kill him. The kid said he was looking for his own dog. I don't know how the kid thought his dog could unlatch our gate, come into the yard, and open our back door to get into the house but oh well. DH didn't turn him in but told him he didn't want to see him even in our neighborhood again. Cassie loves to lay on back of the couch looking out the picture window so I know this kid had seen her before. Oh yeah, he said his dog was a pit bull. I shudder to think what he wanted with Cassie! I think when Ivan goes we will alarm the house and get some kind of camera set up like that one woman had. It sure got her dogs back fast! |

| What a sad story. I know I would not sleep till I got my guy back. I do have 2 shepherd mixes so getting in my house or through them to their buddy may be too hard. I hope these are very inept thieves and they are caught quickly.

| stolen yorkies So horrible and sad part. They require care! Will the know how or even try to provide care. I have a beautiful sweet loves everone 3lb. full coat. But she has health issues kidney problems. Costs fortune for her health and lots of time and effort. If stolen wouldn't live. When out most are just nice and admire her. Then a lot more than would like strange. Always wanted one do u want to sell. Some just creepy. Had strange woman and older son IN Petsmart (good area) very insistant about holding her. Unlike my prev Yorkie who would take skin off. This one wants pets. What do we do to protect our babies. Tell me please. It is getting frightening. |

| Heartbreaking. I hope the puppies are returned. This is so horrible, I can't belive people would do this. These babies are like her children. It makes me so sick to hear this continues to happen. I sincerely hope there is a lead and these rotten people pay for what they have done.
