[News] Homegrown, White House-Caliber Pups Make TV Debut! 1 Attachment(s) Ahead of the curve as usual, we first discovered breeder Denise Ronayne’s well-mannered Yorkshire terrier pups almost two years ago. This morning, just when we thought that we (and the rest of America) had reached cute puppy overload, we got word from Ronayne that the she and her Yorkies will make their national television debut this weekend when they star on Animal Planet show Dogs 101 (Saturday 11/15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday 11/16 at 7 p.m.). But Ronayne’s hopes for her cuddly canines stretch beyond television stardom: She’d like for one of her Yorkies to be the new First Dog. “The Animal Planet producer and I are very hopeful that Obama’s family will watch the show because we believe one of our dogs would be a perfect fit,” she says. “Someone like Obama could get any show dog out there, but I don’t think that’s who he is. And I’ve heard that one of his daughters is allergic, which makes Yorkshire terriers ideal because they have hair, not fur.” Continues the enthusiastic Ronayne, “What an honor it would be for us at Country Home Yorkies—and even for the state of Massachusetts—to give the first family a Yorkshire terrier!” Bostonista - Boston Magazine |
Are yorkies ok for people with allegies to dogs? In a way i hope a yorkie isnt the dog of choice for the Obama family cuz it will cause too many people to get a yorkie JUST for that reason and then the shelters will fill with yorkies  |
I'm hoping that our First Family sticks with their original plan and adopts from a shelter or rescue. There are many pure breds / hyperallergenic dogs for adoption. I was very pleased to see President Elect Obaman supporting rescuing rather then buying. I also want to add that some called it a good political move but President Obama has been an advocate for adoption for some time - even before running for president. Elaine |
OMG! A co-worker just sent me this article. This "breeder" has such a bad rep as a Puppy Mill!!! I can't believe Animal Planet has not done their homework and is actually going to air this!! If you go to: yorkies.com then: looking for a breeder" States K-M, (She is in MA)....scroll down to the left and read the horror stories!!! |

I appreciate you providing that link. I am going to email animal planet this is ridiculous it will give her more exposure to sell and harm more dogs! We need to take a stand against this puppy mill everything starts out small.:( |
Maybe we should bombard animal planet with complaints before it airs. |
I agree Animal Planet will be receiving my complaint! |

You can call (212) 548-5555 Which is the phone number for the Animal Planet corporate office and tell them what you are calling for and they will put you on the voicemail for urgent viewer relations. This might be a quicker way to let our voices be heard! |
I sent out my complaints  |
I think this whole Obama family search for a dog is an atrocity!!!! While the world is crumbling they are looking for a DOG! What ARE they thinking. Just like one of his pre-election speeches where he said his first line of duty was to help the automobile industry. HELLO!! I don't care if they all fold. It isn't top priority and we have enough anyway. That's like going to a Doctor with a knife in your heart and he's more concerned for your hang nail. I'm at a loss folks! IF they have any sense at all, they won't get any animal, and if they MUST, then rescue a mutt, so that the whole country follows suit. Don't give the millers more "fodder". |

I'm not the least bit surprised that "Dogs 101" woul feature a puppymiller. That show is good for seeing cute puppies and that's about it. It's ripe with half-truths and misinformation. I've never heard any emphasis put on finding a reputable breeder. The Chihuahua feature said, "According to the AKC a true Chihuahua should weigh less than 6lbs, they can come with either appleheads or deerheads." It's the parent club that sets the standard, not AKC, and the "deer" look is way out of standard. Just b/c a dog is out of standard doesn't mean its not a "true Chihuahua." The German Shepherd feature went on and on about what great family pets they are. There was no mention of the health and temperment problems created by overbreeding. In my area there have been many more attacks on people by GSDs than pits. That's what happens when poorly bred, big, powerful dogs aren't trained and socialized. |

I don't think that the Obama family is making this big of a deal out of it (though his daughters might be...I sure did when I wanted a dog lol), it is the media/nation that is doing it. It's kind of like the Joe the Plumber frenzy. It was just a comment that gone blown a bit out of proportion. Give it a week. |
I'm sorry but this whole issue has gotten people to talk about the plight of shelter animals. That's always a good thing in my book. It may not be as important as the war or the economy, but it's still worthwhile. On Anderson Cooper 360 last night they did a whole segment on shelter dogs. They told about how "hypoallergenic dogs" are a myth and the number of small mixes and purebreds that end up in shelters. I'd much rather hear about the Obama's shelter pup, than who Paris Hilton is screwing this week or how Jennifer Annisten is trash talking Angelina. Who the F*** cares? |

I am all for Yorkies, but I hope the family sticks w/ the "yorkies are too small" thing....there was an interview awhile back and Yorkies were mentions, but Obama said he didn't want a small dog.....they were looking into Poodles and two other dogs. |
I ~ Left my message on the newspaper link! I called the telephone number but no prompts to leave a message (Sunday?), I will try again tomorrow... |
Animal Planet - Denise Hello I haven't been on this site for a long time but I am one of the people that got a very sick dog from Denise R. After seeing the article in the newspaper I had to watch the show on TV last night and they did not show Denise, but I know that the house they showed was her house along with the neighborhood kids. Anyways I have tried to no avail to have her stopped but nothing was ever done. Thank you everyone for making a complaint to Animal Planet for this. Carolyne Love Harley and Louie |
Does anyone know if Animal Planet has any ties to CNN? Anderson Cooper doesn't do a whole lot of animal related stories, but when he/his show does, they are very fair and informative. I was very impressed with their story about Obama's new dog. The first thing they said was, "There's no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog." Maybe they could do a story on puppymills/Animal Planet featureing puppymills. The HSUS may be a good place to complain too. |
see Glassyorkies.com Quote:
It's Glassyorkies.com that has the bad reports on this breeder, in the "looking for a breeder" section, Massachusetts. Also see the comments section of the Boston Magazine piece--not one positive remark about her. Give Animal Planet no credibility. |
Have you contacted Glassyorkies.com [QUOTE=carolyne;2333769]Hello I haven't been on this site for a long time but I am one of the people that got a very sick dog from Denise R.
