| Ongoing Tummy Troubles-Any Suggestions?? Bally is 6 months old and has tummy troubles (the squirts, soft stool, you name it) since day one. He has had multiple stool samples from the vet, nothing shows up. Last friday we sent another stool sample to a larger lab to check for everything (parasites, etc.) still waiting for results but I am really starting to get nervous. I started feeding him California Naturals Rice and Lamb about two weeks ago and he still is having potty problems. Any suggestions?? I thought food allergies? possibly chicken but I thought the new food would help but it is two weeks later and he is still having issues. Sorry for such a long post, just don't know what else to do, starting to lose my mind with worry.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Is he eating the kibble or canned? All 3 of mine eat the California Natural because Cali has allergies and their poops are solid. I think the kibble helps that. Hopefully the new test will give you some answers. I know how scary it is when they are having problems

| Bally has only been eating only the kibble. It seems like he has one solid poop then it is messy again the next time he goes

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, do I have experience w/ squirts, mucousy stools, and mushy stools! I fought it post-giardia for 4 months - we suspected ibs. Finally, I consulted w/ an animal nutritionist and put him on a white-fish based diet - and *voila*, 1.5 days later we had formed stools. A freaking miracle at that point. It is probably a food allergy of some kind. If it were me, I'd probably get him a probiotic, digestive enzymes to start. Do you want to keep him on kibble or are you thinking of homecooking? If kibble, Wellness has some single protein/single carb allergy foods that would be the least complex of kibbles. Stay away from chicken. They have venison or duck. I know how frustrating and scary this is - so don't be afraid to keep posting if you need help!

| I was hoping to keep him on kibble but if homecooking is what it takes to get my lil boy better then I am in. I will try the probiotic, thanks for the suggestion. Still waiting for the test results but I am starting think that he has a food allergy too. I have stopped giving him chicken all together about two weeks ago and saw a tiny improvement but it still feels like a up hill battle. I will also look into trying Wellness, I can only pray at this point. I will say though that it doesn't help that he EATS everything he can find, no matter how small or big.

Another thing I do, as recommended by the nutritionist, is add fiber to the diet. The best way is canned pumpkin, but for me, the easiest way is to ad a pinch of Benefiber - bc Marcel is so very small and adding in yet another food (pumpkin) was just way too much food for him. So, we do the pinch of benefiber (it's the only fiber supplement the nutritionist recommends). Keep us posted on what happens w/ his tests. Hang in there!

| That is so funny that you recommended the Herring and Sweet Potato because I just got back from the pet store where they gave me a sample to try. I will add fish into the mix for added protein, I was concerned about that too so your suggestion really helps. Bally is only 4lbs so he is pretty tiny too so adding benefiber is a GREAT idea. I am willing to try anything at this point. Stupid questions: Is it normal that after he eats his stomach expands a ton? He gets really gassy too which is not very pleasent for him or me.Is this part of a food allergy symptom? Still waiting for his test results I have called the vet two days in row, I bet they are thrilled with me but I just really want to know that it is not something serious. As soon as I hear, I will be sure to post ASAP. Thanks Wylie's Mom, you have been such a help to me! I can't thank you enough. It helps knowing that other people have experienced the same problems with their babies.

| The expanded tummy and gas could be the beginning of pancreatitis. Foods high in fat, or a lot of greasy table scraps tend to trigger pancreatitis. If they drew a blood sample (ie panel), his protein results will show up. I know first hand about "squirts" and gas. Poor Sophie had her first attack when she was 5. The advice about extra protein in their diet is excellent, plus pumpkin and fiber additive. Probotics are a life-saver and help settle the gut. If pancreatitis is the diagnosis, do lots of reading. Good luck and will watch for your post. Warmly, Deborah

Probably better get him on some Probiotics asap - are you near a health food store that carries the refrigerated ones? If they're not refridg., it is most likely that the active cultures are dead - unless they've used a very special method (can't remember what it's called right now) - at which point they'd cost more than $20. Did I just confuse you? LOL. Anyway, best to get them from an actual health food store. Keep us posted on the tests and I do hope he starts feeling better!
