Water Consumption We all know we're supposed to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but what if you're a 7 pound Yorkie? Do any of you keep track of how much water your Yorkie drinks? Otis went to the vet early this morning because he wasn't feeling well, and they said he was severely dehydrated, despite my attempts to force water with a syringe in his mouth. Now I realize I actually don't know how much water my dog drinks on a daily basis. I only change his water every day, and sometimes my boyfriend does, so it's hard to keep track. Discuss!

One of my friend dog drink a lot of water and her vet told her she had to keep an eye on how much her dog drank. What she did was measure out the water in the bowl each day and when she is ready to change the water out(at a set time each day), she pour the water back into the measuring cup and substract the difference. I hope that info help give you an idea how to keep track of Otis water consumption

Is Otis OK? How can they tell if they are dehydrated? Chewy doesn't drink much. Sometimes on hot days I have to hold an ice cube for him and let him lick it down. Talk about a primadonna

^^ He wasn't doing too well this morning. He had been having diarrhea all night long, then at 5:00 a.m., he was shaking really bad and actually pooped out blood. I freaked out and rushed him to the emergency vet. They ran tests and said he was dehydrated. So I'm trying to keep an eye on how much water he's been drinking throughout the day, and it's really hard to do, esp. when he has a huge water dish and half of it splashes on the floor. The best thing I found is to feel his beard. If it's wet, he's been drinking.

| I watch Maggie's consumption very close, due to Texas heat. She is one busy little girl. Her bowl holds two cups. She drinks 3/4 of the bowl daily. Each morning, I wash the bowl, and we start over. However, she drinks out of the big dogs pan, the koi pond, water hose, sprinkler, my glass, puddles, ice cubes. Good thing she can't reach the toilet. No wonder she PP's a pint at a time. Whew I would too.
