| My new adult Yorkie won't eat HELP! I am worried about my new little angel... she is the most wonderful, sweet, gentle pet I could have ever hoped for. I got her yesturday My concern is that she will not eat anything today! Not even the things that she ate yesturday. Is this common when a Yorkie first transitions to a new home? Should I be concerned? I do not know what to do except call the vet in the morning and voice my concerns to them.

| I think this is pretty common. I have some where they wouldn't eat for a couple days or even go to the bathroom. Just encourage her to eat and I would give her some nutrical so she is getting some nutrition. She should start eating on her own once things settle down more for her. When I brought Tigger home a few months ago, it took me 3 days to get him to eat. He was so scared of everything. After that I had no problems getting him to eat, it was just the transition that caused it.

| Nutrical is a vitamin supplement. It comes in a paste. When they're not eating sometimes the nutrical will perk up their appetites. You can get it at any pet shop really. |

| Are you feeding her the same food your breeder was giving her? If not, you might want to switch back, and introduce the new food gradually. I wouldn't worry too much - it does take them a while to feel comfortable in their new surroundings, and it might be a little while until she eats normally. |

Nutrical is actually sugar in a tube really. there aren't many vitamins in it so don't let the tube fool ya. to the OP, don't worry about not eating great right away. make sure you are offering the same food she is used to and only introduce new food slowly. when she's good and hungry she'll eat. dogs won't starve themselves.

| Try adding some boiled chicken to the food or some cottage cheese. I have also given my babies green bean baby food or carrot baby food.

I suspected maybe it was because the old owners took her to the vet Friday and they told me that she ended up having some teeth pulled... I was right... I took her to the vet this afternoon. She wasn't eating because she was IN PAIN from having "5" teeth pulled the day before I got her Poor baby. The vet prescribed a pain killer and told me to cook boiled chicken breast and rice in chicken broth. She ate it!! A lot of it!! Can you imagine how thrilled and releived I was??? I am to feed 1/2 cup of this to her twice a day until she gets to feeling better and then gradually switch her over to regular dog food. The pain killer I have to squirt into her mouth 2 times a day for 7 days. She does not like it ...but she feels tons better! I can tell. I am just so glad she is eating now!

| How wonderful that you adopted an adult pup, and what a smart Mom to go to the vet for a checkup. Charlie had a lot of teeth extracted, and now I take his kibble (Orijen), measure, place in a bowl, cover with water and refrigerate for the next day. Soft food, nutritional and won't hurt their gums. PS They shouldn't have hard kibble for a few weeks following dental surgery. Warmly, Deborah

Thank you for the nice encouraging words So, Orijen is the name of his food? I am at a loss on what to feed her now. I can not believe her old owners sent me with hard food and expected her to eat it after such a tooth removal! Do you cover the food with water and then drain it before feeding it? I am incredibly new at this and trying so hard to do the very best for her.
