| Very laid back puppy? My baby Gracie will be 11 weeks old on Monday. She is a very laid back puppy! Right now, she's been sleeping in her basket on my desk for almost 3 hours! She seems to sleep fine at night, doesn't make any noise or keep us up. She's not a big eater and I do supplement her with Nutrical 3 times a day. She's just now starting to show interest in playing with toys. Is this normal for some Yorkies? I keep reading about all these other ones who are very active etc., and I think "Wow, Gracie is so calm!" She doesn't seem to be sick or anything. She's had a couple of instances where she was hypoglycemic in the morning after not eating enough before going to bed at night, but her poops are fairly solid and regular and she doesn't seem dehydrated. Any thoughts? |

| My Carter is a very calm pup as well. He's 6 1/2 months and could sleep all day if I'm being lazy on the couch. He sleeps all night as well. It is my belief that it is just the temperment of his ancestors that determined him to be laid back instead of hyper.

| Graciesmommy, our dogs sound exactly the same.. my beaker is 15 weeks old and still has never picked up a toy... i have not told any one a lot really about beaker but her i go.. I remember calling this lady about yorkies that she had for sale... she told me she only had one left....i was interested and told her i would call her back...well i waited about a week or a little more, when i called back she told me she still had the puppy but he was kinda sick, and could not let him go, it was not a real bad sick where he wasnt going to be ok... he just had stopped eating on his own and she needed to get him to gain some more weight and get him eating again befor she could let him go.. well sence this was somthing that could be fixed and the dog would be fine , it was an awsome deal for a dog with akc papers, i asked her if i could come and at least look at him to see if i liked him , so that i could put a dep on him if i did... so i think it was like a week after the phone call that i went to go check this dog out, after an hour and a half drive, we were there. i saw the dog and fell in such love with him... so tiny and what a baby doll face..she explain to me that she had brought him to the vet and the vet had no clue why he just stoped eating on his own...she did tell me that the vet did give the dog medicen for coxsidea..(sp) and that the dog also had hypoglycemic too...telling me that dog would be alright and that he just needed to take his med and needed to be fed with a serynge untill he eats on his own.... i was ok with it and said well let me leave a dep, and asked when can i come and pick him up... she said after christmas.... with disappointment i explained to her that i was going to my parents in south fl for christmas and would like if if i could pick him up a lillte before christmas so i could bring him home with me.... A family member of hers who was there too quickly turned and said...(why dont you just let bianca...thats me... take the dog today and she can give him what he needs and hand feed him herself..) To make this long story short.. me being in such a hurry to take this dog, that i fell so in love, home with me ,,, i did... i stayed up day and night trying to get this dog to eat... this puppy would not lick, look at you, wouldnt wag its tail, would be hunched backed, would not sit, and was very sickly looking... My father said that if i were him that he would take the dog back... but i was not about to give up hope on this little angle.. the women did say that she would take him back, but me being the way i am, pig headed i didnt want to, even if it meant me loesing 550$... My father also asked me if i saw the parents.. man was i stupid... she did tell me on the phone befor i got the puppy, when i asked about the parents.. that they were both there at her house.. when i was at her house i forgot to ask to see them... that was stupid... but anyways.. time went on with the pup and one day he just started to lick... but still wouldnt eat food.. so i then put food where beaker would lick..uh hah.. that worked.. he started eathing and has been eathing sence... and now wags his tail.... looks healther, sits down.. runs.... and seems like he want to play,... but never does.. some one told me it could be seperation, or that some dogs just take a very long time to get use to there new surroundings..i hope so... my vet says he is very healthy... he has never even barked..not once.. i think as time goes on he will learn to bark or even play... i love him regardles... he is my littl angle..... |

| Otis is the same way! Very calm, which I absolutely LOVE. He doesn't have that typical "small dog" hyperness. When he was a puppy, he never barked and rarely wanted to play. He just liked to be around mommy and go for walks and rides. However, do you have a carpeted house or hardwood floor? I have hardwood floors here, but my boyfriend's house is carpeted, and Otis goes WILD there. I think that may make a difference as far as his toenails and traction. He begs to play fetch all the time at my boyfriend's house because he loves carpeting. But again, Otis has never barked at my boyfriend's house... he may do one "YAP," but that's about it. | I bring Gracie to the office every day and she plays with my office partner's Shih Tzu who is 11 weeks old. Jasmine gets kind of rough with Gracie sometimes and we have to separate them but then Gracie goes right back after her! And they inevitably end up in the same kennel sleeping together by afternoon. I think sometimes she might be getting a little stressed out by Jasmine and that's why she sleeps so much. But she's used to being around other dogs, we have a full grown 15 lb. Shih Tzu and a 70 lb. Lab at home too, and Gracie loves them both and plays well with them. I just wondered if any of you had subdued puppies like mine! I'm used to puppies being all over the place, and Gracie is just so laid back! My office partner says she walks like a little old man...nice slow steady pace! She's not in any hurry to get anywhere, that's for sure! |

| I think our Yorkies sometimes take OUR traits into their personality. Yoda is rather calm for the most part, but he does his little bark and stuff when he hears a doorbell chime or sees dogs or horses on TV. It can be a good thing, though he always does want to play. |

| Bentley is also a really calm puppy. He does get excited when other dogs are around, but otherwise he loves to sleep and cuddle. We call him our little love bug because he is always looking for a place to curl up on our laps and take a nap. Bentley is now almost 8 months and is getting more interested in toys, but loses interest pretty quickly. I also agree with what fasteddie said about dogs taking on their owners traits. We are quiet, laid back people and I think Bentley picks up on that. When we were home for Christmas and he met my mother in law (who is a loud, high strung person) Bentley was scared of her and spend most of the time in hiding. |

| Archie's not really subdued, but he's not hyperactive, either. He plays but only for an hour or so before he gets tired and chews on his chew stick or ball. He doesn't bark either which I always found a little weird. Aren't yorkies supposed to be yappers? He started barking a little bit but under limited circumstances: 1) when his ball goes under the couch and I'm not in the room, 2) when his "girlfriend," comes to our door and cries, and 3) when he sees another dog out the window that he knows. But he never barks more than once or twice. We try to play with him in time increments, but not too much. |
