I'm still feeding natural balance potato & duck. Once in a while I used to feed him some Nutro canned but not anymore!

It sounds disgusting.
I also know if I were to take a tour of a meat packing company I would be a vegetarian. Not to mention growth hormones, E coli, salmonella, recalled meat, deaths...

Perhaps I am being naive but why can't there be companies making dog food from meat that isn't diseased or covered in rancid fat? Did you ever notice how many threads there are of people changing their dog's food to one (or several) of the better foods but the dog won't eat it? Jmo, but I do believe it is because the company does not spray it full of junk just to make it taste better. Kind of like getting your kid to eat carrots over french fries.

I don't think there is any dog food that is wonderful for our pets but until I'm shown otherwise I will continue to believe the claims of the companies I trust.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Kikko was on i/d because we had a lot of issues of soft poopie due to parasites and possibly allergies, we haven't checked that out yet since the meds have finished and he's been fine.. so that's what i've kept him on. and the other issue would be that I live in Taiwan and we don't have the same brands of food available here. the only one's i've seen at the pet-store (the only one i know how to get to) is nutro... the other food at the pet store are like eukanuba, iams, science diet ... crap you know. ... and i/d i bought from my vet. so i'll try to ask him where i can get other food (we'll see how that goes, he doesn't speak much english and i speak hardly any chiense).. but you can see my dilemma.

the I/D is fine to keep him on. Its a very bland diet that shouldn't upset the stomache. Are you feeding dry or wet? if the vet only gave you cans then you can ask for dry food instead. it will last longer and be cheaper. I know the price adds up if that's the only thing your feeding. Check to see if your store has Dick van patten's Natural Balance. They sell this at the Petco's here so maybe it will be in your pet store too. The Natural Balance comes in allergy formulas like potato and duck, sweet potato and fish, vegetarian (for dogs allergic to many meat proteins), and venison and brown rice. These foods are good for sensitive skin and stomaches because the proteins used are unusual compared to the chicken, turkey,beef, and lamb in most foods.

Before the recall I started all of mine back to Timberwolf,Bison. I feed 3 pups Joey,2, Boomer,10 and Ally 12+ all the same food and I find they do not need to have any moist added for them to eat it. :aimeeyork

NUTRO ULTRA DRY....(ADULT SMALL BITES FORMULA) and small amount of Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice ORIGINAL formula canned food.

I'm sticking with Innova....I think all else is safe in the dry version

I will look to see if these are available ... but i went to the pet store right next to my vet (its his store too actually) and they had a brand of food called optima, anyone heard of it. The ingredients look good and has the AAFCO statement .. so i bought. my guy ate it up! but he had diarrhea later ... bad mommy for changing his food so quick. now i am intrducing it more slowly.

:confused: So what is SAFE TO FEED? I have never heard of all these brands either... WOW?? :confused: So really if anyone can help wat is safe to feed?? I am confused and upset with all of this dog food issue going on.... seriously what is next? I think everyone is feeling like this or is it just me?:eek: But if anyone can answer is EukaNuba dry food ok to feed?? :animal-pa

Gucci is still eating Canidae. Just dry food. She doesnt eat moist food. Well I give her once in a while some home made chicken.

I am really trying to get things together to start cooking for my two. Teddy and my Golden.

I made them a pot of food tonight and it was a great success in that they just loved it. My biggest concern is that they get everthing they need while eating my home cooking. I don't want to miss some important ingredient.

I started with 5 chicken thighs boiled and then removed from the bone. (They did have the skin but I removed it after boiling and skimmed the fat from the top of the pot.) Then I added brown rice, green beans, shredded carrot and rolled oats. let it simmer until it was thick almost like a canned food consistancy. Put some in thier bowls, let cool and added missing link.

The kids were haaaapy and gobbled it all up.

So, any of you who know what your doing in the cooking for your babies tell me what you think of my mixture and if I sholuld have done something differently or added something they need that I left out.

I really hope I can figure out how to cook for them economically and get rid of the bagged stuff all together.

all i can tell you is that it's good you put the missing link in there. Its hard when home cooking to know exactly what percentage of what vitamin and mineral your pups are getting. that's why i don't do it. i feed canidae or other super premium foods where they've already figured that stuff out. i know its scary right now to feed any type of dog food, but i look this recall on dog food as the same thing as the recall on some people foods. we've done nothing wrong and yes it is scary to know that we might have been feeding something that wasn't good but these dog food companies have perfected their food so that our babies are getting all the nutrition they need in certain kibbles (i am in no way saying that the foods that were recalled were good foods to begin with. those types of foods i would never feed my dog because its garbage. i'm talking about canidae, wellness, innova, fromms, etc)

perhaps call for a consult with a doggie nutrionalist or ask your regular vet if they can find out for you. they would know best what ingredients your pet needs. i'm not sure how it is with dogs but i know that some people who cook for their cats really end up making a mess of things because they didn't know that cats absolutely need taurine in their diets, among other things, and their cooking did more bad then good.

I started using the Eagle Pack Holistic for my cat and her stools are so small now and no odor! :thumbup:

I've only tried samples of it but I've heard it's pretty good. I just don't like the thought of only being able to get it online..:(

i got a sample of flint river and morgan refused to eat it. the pieces are larger and flat so i had to break them up a bit before she could even attempt to refuse it. it sounds like a good food tho.
