Ears: To tape or not to tape? Brooklyn is 11 and a half weeks old and her ears are all flop. I personally think this is adorable, but the breeder mentioned to me that I should shave the hair on her ears and maybe tape them up to get them to stand. What do you all think about this? Is there a possibility that they will stand on their own? and if they don't, is it a bad thing for adult yorkies to have floppy ears? |

1 Attachment(s) My boy is 5 months, and teething. Only the tips of his ears are flopped, so I tapped them just to see if it helps. Here he is looking happy and silly. Couldn't care less that he has tape on them |
It depends on what you want. If you want her ears to stand up than by all means tape them if not then I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have one of each. Mollie's ears are about 3/4 of the way up and Wyatt's is still all ears. I never had to tape his. I did shave them however but only because They started to stand up by themselves when he was a few months old. |
people have different preferences like i like my yorkies ears to be erect others like the floppy. if you want them to stand shave the hair off the back tips of the ears fold them in half long ways and use a piece of masking tape but don't cover the ear hole. |

I you don't want to tape them just massage her ears every day for 15 minutes and shave them..........Leeloo's ears went right up! :aimeeyork ;) Again we love our little ones anyways:D |

Here's a pretty cool diagram I found for anyone who might want to tape ears but doesn't know how: http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/TapingEars.html |
Right from when I got Tia at 9 weeks old, I began massaging her ears (as well as her paws and other areas a vet or groomer might handle). I would massage her ears when she was really sleepy and learned that this helps the ears to stand on their own. They started to come up but the tips still flopped. We thought she was really cute with floppy ears, but I new that when she was full grown I would want her to "look" like a proper Yorkie. She is 4 months old, and a couple of weeks ago I brought her for her first trip to the groomer and asked to have her ears shaved. Within 2-3 days, one ear was perfectly up, the other took a few days more, but I just massaged that ear more than the other. All in all, in about 7-9 days, Tia now has perfectly erect ears. Expect the ears to droop when your pup is teething, though. |
I personally think it's floppy ears are cute. Is it rude to ask the breeder for a floppy ear yorkie baby? |

awwwwww they look so cute with the lil tape :) |
If you think it is adorable then leave the ears down. Cozy's ears are down and I think she is the most precious and gorgeous Yorkie ever. I know erect ears are part of the standard but I personally don't care. Cozy was overstandard when I got her (7.5 at 4 months will be 1 April Fools Day- Currently 10.5 pounds and has been since 6 months of age). |
