| is overeating possible? hello. great website. glad i found it. lots of useful info. just recently got 2 8week old puppies(brother and sister). both are completely healthy but i was wondering if there is such a thing as a puppy overeating. both are the same age but the female seems to eat 3 times as much as the little male. they have access to food whenever they want it. any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| They can overeat but not at that age. They need all the nutrients possible at that age

| Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new babies Do you have them on a good high-quality puppy food? When they're little they do seem to 'graze' all day

| There are alot of good brands. Some off the top of my head are Natures Variety,Nutro, Canidae,Merricks, Chicken Soup,Natural Balance and Innova. You cant usually find any of these at Petco or Petsmart. I have found better brands at feed stores and specialty pet stores. Some people order them online. Do a search of foods an you will fiind out alot of info

| I free fed my girl since she was a puppy and she has never over-eaten. In fact she kind of put herself on a eating schedule. She eats a small amount in the morning, then once I get home, then a bit more for a late dinner. Her food is down all day and she can have it whenever she wants. I give her Innova mixed with Nutro for sensitive tummies. Iams is not a high quality food, I would HIGHLY recommend switching.

| Yorkies are not noted for being over eaters. "Occassionaly" you have one that just loves to eat...I have one of those.....she just loves food and anybody's.....so, we feed her seperately and keep her seperated until everyone has finished their meals.

| Keep a close eye on the boy too. If he doesn't eat as much as he should, he will go into shock from low blood sugar. Buy a tube of puppy Nutri-Cal and give it to them each day. Maybe the boy a couple times a day. About a dime size each time. Puppies this young should be eating about 5 times a day. |
