| Frequent Urination? Hi. I am new to this forum. We just got a 6 month old Yorkie about 3 weeks ago. His name is Bandit and he 3 lbs. He is doing very well with potty training (we are working with pee pads and litter box). But he seems to be peeing more frequently then when we first got him. He pees about 7-8 times a day. One day he peed 10 times. Is that too much or normal? I'm not used to having such a small dog and I was wondering if I should be concerned. He seems to be a happy normal puppy otherwise. Thanks to anyone who can help. |

| Hello and welcome! My JoJo urinates frequently and also drinks a lot of water, like 16 ounces a day! I was pretty concerned as this is 3 to 4 times the requirements for his weight. He is now 5 months old but he has always gone a lot ( I have had him since he was 13 weeks old). My first call was to the breeder and she suggested bringing a urine sample to the vet to check for a urinary tract infection (this was very difficult for me to do, my sample was contimated as it is very hard to get a clean sample and they had to use a catheter at the vet). He did not have an infection and there were not any crytals in his urine. They waited a few weeks and he was still urinating frequently and drinking a lot of water so they checked his blood to see if he kidneys were OK (this was done as part of the pre-op testing for neutering). They were fine and he is not diabetic. So it is normal for him (they didn't really suspect anything major since he has a lot of energy and is eating well) but you should get your puppy checked to rule out all of the above. Good luck!

| Luckily, he's been peeing in the litter box only. He's been very good with that. Also (and I know this may sound stupid) but we found him some new treats that he LOVES. He knows when he's a good boy and goes in the litter box he gets one of those threats. Do you think he could be peeing deliberately so he can get one of his goodies?? |
