| New member here w/ question about pancreatitis Hi everyone. This is my first post as a new member and I would like to know if anyone has had one of their precious babies have a bout of pancreatitis. About 10 days ago I woke up to find my Gracie vomiting. She was perfectly normal when we went to bed. I took her to our vet and she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. For the past 10 days we have been giving meds and most of the time she seems ok, but she is not eating as well as she did. The vet prescribed Purina EN as her diet. She ate it at first, but now won't touch it. I have been boiling chicken breast and combining it with rice which the vet said would be alright. I guess what I am wanting is some advice from someone who has had to deal with this problem.

My furkids Donating Member | Sorry to hear about your furbaby...I have never personally delt with this by my Parents have...they have a mini schnauzer that has gotten it a couple of times...but, she has alot of other medical problems as well... Are you feeding human food? This could be what is causing it....and just some advise...I would find a better food than purina...look at the ingredients....not good! If it were me I would put her on a good dog food made with human grade products. There are no by-products in them and they are made with alot of veggies and good meats...try to stay away from products with corn in them also...this can cause allergies. These little ones have tiny little bellies and can't take the food larger dogs can eat...JMO Good Luck and I hope your furbaby is well soon.

| Thanks for your response. What brand of food would you recommend. I want the very best food possible for my baby. The breeder that I got her from also fed her dogs Purina foods. I wondered about this and when my vet gave her the Purina EN for dogs with pancreatitis I just assumed that it must be ok. Thanks again.

| Please watch what she eats and I would check with the vet before I change her food. My dog Bo has pancreatitis and he is eating Purina EN canned and Hills i/d dry food. Hills makes i/d canned also. Gracie might like it better. It doesn't take much for them to have another episode of pancreatitis. Bo can hardly eat anything because it might do more harm than good. |

| Bo is 10 and he was diagnosed a year ago with chronic pancreatitis. He is doing better now but I have to really be careful with what I feed him because it could flare up again. It sounds like Gracie had an episode of pancreatitis which isn't as bad as Bo's thank goodness. |
