Corned beef?? 5 month old loves it. is it ok for him to eat??? Hello all, Our little Charlie is a cheeky 5 month old whom we love to bits. He seems fit and healthy in every way apart from his feeding. I've read lots of other posts which seem to show that it's not unusual for these little dogs to be fussy eaters. We've tried loads of different dog foods, both dry and wet but nothing seems to work consistently. We were desperate for him to eat something so we tried him on a little corned beef, which he LOVES.... My only concern is that it might not be suitable for him, he's 5 months old and i'd appreciate your opinions/ideas. Thanks for looking, Matt, Hel and Charlie |
Mine LOVE corned beef too:) Its fine for them to eat a little as a treat but not too much because its very fatty;) Just a little is fine:) |

I think an occasional corn beef is fine provided he doesn't have a sensitive stomach. However, you don't want to give him human food as his main diet. One of the reason is salt content. Dogs can't handle the amount of salt we can in our system. They can't sweat it out like we can so there little kidneys have to work extra hard to get rid of it. This can lead to kidney failure in the long run. Here is a list of some of the things I feed my dogs. Boiled beef, boiled chicken, cheese, peas, and carrots. |
Thanks for the replies, i'll let you know how we get on :) |
We previously had 4 dogs - two yorkies and 2 Lhasa Apsos and our one Lhasa Apso, Hugo was CRAZY about corned beef but I agree with Chelsie1978 (my dear friend Gina!!) that it is fattening.. but a little is fine.. it reminds me that we have not really tried our girls with it as a treat..!! :aimeeyork Ana xx |
New To The Yorkie World We are new parents, two weeks of having Maggie. She is a fussy eater too. We have done the boiled chicken, boiled beef, veggies, scrambled egg, rice, baby food, etc. Today I told her she gets her dog food, so enjoy. I left the room and she ate it. YIPEEE. Of course that will probably change tomorrow. Sometimes she will projectile burp up clear fluids. Looks just like water. Is this normal? She goes for her second set of shots tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing serious. Yesterday she was a little down and out. I found out why this morning. I was taking the trash out (which I do daily) and noticed behind the trash container was a chewed up baseboard. Paint and all was gone. No wonder she was cranky last night. Too much fiber. |
Buffalo & Beef The Yorkie breed was developed on Buffalo & Beef. They go nuts over it. Feliz porks out on it, although I keep her with very small puppy by royal Canin during the day, spinkled with missing link. Every few nights, I will either cook fresh beef, or open a can of Merricks Buffalo & Beef, or one of the other Merricks. I mix in a good quality yogurt (about 1 tbs)- like strauss european, or alta dena, or goat yogurt, or when I get my act together, goat milk from our goats, missing link, and I occasionally add in some nutracal. Feliz wolfs it down- even with her being sick right now- most camby dogs stop eating... =-) Good luck. |
