Anyone ever used Purina DCO - for diabetes & colitis I think alot of you know that our Lil Mis Magic has a very sensitive tummy and often has bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. We have changed vets in an attempt to find a long term solution for Magic's stomach troubles.....as it had gotten to just be routine that Magic was on medications for a 7-10 days and then a 7-10 days later the problems would start again and there was never a serious recommendation to change foods....as everytime we tried something new the problem just got worse.
So our new vet has been working with us for about 5-6 weeks and after a round of medication and then another pretty serious bout of diarrhea.....he decided to try a food switch with the medication and also adding a little plain yogurt to her diet and also a slow reduction of the medications. So we are on week 2 of his plan - she is now on the Purina Vet Diet called DCO for diabetes and colitis and she gets 1/2 teaspoon of yogurt every three days to keep some good bacteria in her tummy and we are weaning her off the medication so by next Monday she will no longer be on any meds.
So far so good......but next week will tell the real situation. We are just worried as Magic's weight is up and down all the time....last time at the vet she was down to 4 pounds 1 ounce.....where normally she stays right at 5 pounds when healthy. (Over a month she lost 20% of her body weight...so I think that is helping the new vet decide to find a long term solution.) So......after my long story...back to my question.....anyone every heard of Purina Vet Diet DCO? Anyone ever used it for any of their dogs??
