Ear Crust/scabs???? 2 Attachment(s) Dolce seems to have some yellow-ish ear crust/scabbing. I have attached photos for you all to see. He is not scratching, crying or bothering his ears so I am not too sure where it could have come from. A few weeks ago he did get his booster shots and he didnt have these scabs. He WAS scratching before the shots and the vet noticed his skin was dry and suggested that I change his diet from Ceasars to Science Diet and that his food could be the cause of his dry coat and ear scratching. Since changing he has stopped scratching his ears and his coat is improving. But now this ear crust. Has anyone seen anything like this before? He is going to the vet on Sunday, but until then any ideas what this could be/how he could have gotten it? Thanks so much! |
I'm not an expert, but that looks like dried Goop from scratching, perhaps it is healing? I'm sure you've read all the posts regarding food and how to grade it and such, but Science Diet (like Caesars) is full of byproducts and ingredients that are known allergens, as well as them being one company that is know to do animal testing. It is possible that the switch in food has stalled the itching/scratching for a time being. But, I'd really look for another food. All the premium brands out there that have really good ingredients are no more expensive than Science Diet. Just a suggestion. Please let us know what the vet says about the ears. |
Thank you so much. I was thinking it was just healing, but I wanted to get others thoughts. I will certainly update you when he returns from the vet. It doesnt seem to bother him, but should I put a warm compress or something on the area? |
Any skin irritation can become infected. I would think the yellow is a sign of infection and you probably need to put some Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment on it. |
I will try the neosporin and see what happens until he sees the vet. |
