| Poop with Mucuous and Traces of Blood My baby Guinness woke me up at 4:00am in the morning to potty in the bathroom. As he was going, I noticed that his poop was a bit more watery than usual and at the end it was almost pure mucous with traces of blood. I am very worried since this never happened and I hope he doesnt have Coiccidisis (is that how it is spelled?). I quickly went to him and gave him a dose of Nutrical and tried to make him drink some water (which he refuse so I had to have him lick it off my fingers). As worried as I am though, he seems perfectly fine. He is not acting weak or weird in anyway. I am waiting for him to go potty a second time and see if its just an irritation that he had or if is a real infection... if I see blood again, I think I'll rush him to the vet. I was so worried the whole day that I couldnt concentrate in my classes. I hope I am doing the right thing by waiting a little. Please keep him in your prayers... I really love him a lot... |

| I am certainly no expert but if he is having just soft stool, I suggest you give him pepto or something . . . my Tiger experienced that a few months ago and I got so worried as it had that pinkish/redish mucous . . . I of course took him to the vet and found nothing - no parasites. The redness is caused by soreness from the soft stool. Have you changed his diet by any chance . . they have very sensitive stomachs it seems . . . as soon as they gave me antibiotics he was good. . .but I think if I increased the dosage on the pepto I was giving him It would have been okay . . I know better the next time. Put this eases your worries a bit until you can take him to the vet. |

| If he has blood in the poop I would take him to the vet so more serious things can be ruled out. Chachi had diahrea before and it had blood in it and the vet said it was just irritated bowels

| yes, please take him to the vet. Bloody/mucousy stools are also a symptom of Parvo. Please call your vet fight away.

| Take him to the vet as soon as you can. Oscar had soft, mucousy, bloody stools and he had coccidia. He was showing no other symptoms other than the blood and mucous. The vet said that on a level from 1 to 4, he had a level 2 case. That is really bad in a tiny puppy. They can go downhill really quickly. Don't mean to scare you and it might be nothing at all, but I would rather you be safe than sorry. Good luck with your baby!

| Sometimes you can take a wait and see approach with just diarrhea, but I've always been told if it contains blood or mucous then a trip to the vet is necessary. |

| The same thing happened to my nieces Yorkie Oliver a couple of weeks ago. She took him to the emergency vet and they said he had a stomach virus of some kind and gave him albon and told her to feed him chicken and rice. She was terrified too, and I can understand you being scared. I would take him to the vet to be sure and put your miond at ease. You are both in my prayers.

| Thank you all for your replies. They were all very helpful. Guinness just had his second potty and his stool seems a bit more solid, but still not as solid as it usually is. There was also no traces of blood nor was it mucousy. He is still as perky and playful as he usually is. Even though things seems to be getting better, I am still taking him to the vet tomorrow to have him check and also have a stool check. Like you all said, better safe than sorry. |
