| Problems getting New baby to eat Hi all I posted this on the nursery page but I guess I should have posted here Sorry!! I am new here and was wondering if you all could help me?? what do you all feed your babies? I am having problems getting my new yorkie to eat. She is 14 weeks old, she was checked by the vet and she said that everything is good. The thing is I have to feed her something diffrent all the time or she won't eat! When I first got her she was on eukanuba soft and hard but all of a sudden she wouldn't touch it. than I boiled chicken and beef she ate that for a couple of days and wouldn't touch that again either. Today she ate some ceasers and a little eukanuba hard. My son gave her some of his leftover shredded wheat and milk but I told him not to give her milk am I right? Sorry this is so long but I have a 3 year old and he ate anything so I am stumped Any suggestions?? Thank you Emma's mom |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had the same problem with Cali when she was younger. I would feed her what ever she would eat and cesars was one thing she ate for awhile. Now she eats chicken and hamburger. I would try Merrick's wet most dogs will eat that and it is a good food. Good luck Cali is a much btter eater now but the first 6 months were not fun at meal times.

| my neighbor had the same problem w their boxer and the vet stated to stick to one food. eventually, she will get hungary and eat. you keep changing the food, the pup will expect that.

| I know I shouldn't change it so much but I was afraid she wasn't going to get enough to eat. My husband said that when she is hungery she will eat but I was still worried so I kept changing it. I will try sticking with just one food Thanks Robin |

| Unfortunately that just doesn't work with yorkie puppies..the theory that if they get hungry, they'll eat. When blood sugar drops from not eating, the body goes into a ketotonic state where it tells its self it's not hungry (how starvation diets work for a while..lol) and once you get to that point, they won't eat even if they should be hungry. Other breeds you can get away with being a stickler, and making them eat what you give them, they don't fall out in a matter of hours from sugar drops. My suggestion, Dick Van Pattens ROLLS...I haven't met a dog yet who wouldn't gobble them up. I put mine in the food processer in bulk, then put it in the freezer, and scoop out about 1/8 cup on everyone's dry food, throw in their supplements, stir it up, and VOILA..dinner is served. So far, SO GOOD! http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dog...s/DFRolls.html You can do a zip code look up to see where you can find it close to you, but if you have to order it, in the meantime, try the rolls you can get at Petsmart.

| I had this problem with my 12 week old pup. Is yours drinking any water? My boy wasn't and ended up getting very sick. Jake went from being alert and playful to almost unconscious in less than 45 mins due to Hypoglycemia (lack of blood sugar from not eating) - I'm just so grateful that he fell asleep on my lap or it could of been a couple of hours before I realised there was a problem. He ended up having to be force fed ever two hours for about 2 weeks. So if you end up having to go that route then give me a shout and I'll impart what I know. Meanwhile try use a High Calorie Dietary Supplement (I used Suppli-Cal from the vet) .. basically its a sweet sugary paste fortified with vitamins ... its pretty tasty as far as a dog is concerned and a healthy puppy will be more than happy to lick a blob of this off your finger. If s/he's really not eating anything at all within for a couple of days, take him to a vet .... and ask for a couple of syringes to force feed him with. PM me if you need advice / support re force feeding. |
