| general dog health - parvo at 3am this monring i was awoken by my cell phone ringing off the charger. there was much crying and broken sentences to make my way through but the bottom line came to be this: one of my friends for many years had just let the emergency vet. her dog diagnosed w/parvo and another at home coming down with it. with proper care they should be ok. but by the time i got her consoled about her dogs she was livid w/good reason. she carefully screened her breeders- the vet has confirmed that she had these dogs too long for it to have come from there and only show up now. she's never taken her dogs out to the pet store or to dog parks or anywhere outside of her home/yard. they have not been boarded or let socialize with other dogs in the vets waiting room. they were up to date in shots. she did everythin g in her power to keep her dogs safe and they still got this sickness bc someone else didn't take the proper care of their dog somewhere a long the line. even i was taken a back with the harsh reminder that even when we do everything absolutely perfect- our dogs can still become seriously ill. i thought everyone else could be able to use the reminder- to always be careful and try to minimize your risks as well. if anyone else has more info on the illness or has more specific advice to tips for attending dog parks and the like please add on! we can never have too much info! |

| I have been told by several people who raise other types of dogs that giving your dog children's tylenol helps. I haven't had the personal experience (thank God!) but they swear by it. |

| I'm so sorry about your friends dogs getting Parvo. You say both of them have it, and they are both up to date on their Parvo vaccination? I was looking at the statistics online, because this scared me a little, and the chances of this occurring in two dogs of the same household who are up to date on vaccination is slim to none. I'm sorry, the reason I'm checking is that this scared me to death. Are these puppies that are in the middle of their 3-4 allocations, or are these grown dogs? Also there have been recalls for certain vaccinations, but your friend should have been notified of a recall. Hope everything goes well.

| parvo can be transmitted from place to place on the hair and feet of dogs, as well as on the clothes and shoes of people ,so your friend or anyone who came in to her house could of brought it in on there shoes. also some dogs get it even when they have had there jabs but its rare so if both dogs have it i would say something was wrong with the jabs,go to the vet who done it and complain also if it was a batch of it that thats got something wrong with it there could be other dogs that the owners think are covered and there not so the vet should re call them all. i hope they get better soon.

i would research giving dogs tylenol before i did it. i think most agree it is very dangerous for dogs. only buffered aspirin should be given according to my research. | |

| parvo The chances of vaccinated dogs who are home bound getting parvo is just about nil...I would look for a false positive and another problem. |
