Very Upset,My baby tested for Mange/Ringworm I posted a few days ago about my daughter getting ringworm and then my youngest daughter who is 8 (this sunday!) also got 1 ringworm on her chest. I was so shocked because we havent had time to go out or vacation this summer so they have been with me .I remember when I got my puppy that he had a lot of oily dandruff and some missing hair on the topside of his head. I thought it was just dandruff that had his hair down. Well I had this gut feeling that this might be something more serious. I gave him a good bath and scrubbed that part on his head with a sponge and his oatmeal/arm & hammer shampoo.I did it so softly and most of it came right out. I wanted to cry cause his skin looked raw! I took him this morning to have thevet check him out. The first thing the vet worried about was Mange! His assistant and him gave each other a serious look and just said uhhhhhhh. I imediately asked if he thought it could be mange or ringworm. He said they needed to do a scrape to check for it. The results were quick and it was negative for mange...thank God! But he feels it could be ringworm so I will have to wait for the results in 3-4 days. I cried when he did the 2 scrape samples. Cookie was so still until the second scrape.....he jumped and the vet nicked him and he started to bleed. I jumped out of my seatand was holding my chest. He told me most likely the dog already had ringworm when I got it since he had this spot when I brought him home and thats how my daughters got it! We plan to get another Yorkie in the future but it WONT be from a Pet Shop! I got this little guy and he had kennel cough for 3 weeks, ringworm.IT took me almost a whole month to get him to eat dog food cause the pet shop owner admitted that she gave pups chicken and rice if they didnt want dog food. He is doing so much better and is so full of energy now. He's the little man of the house and he knows it too lol.I'm putting drops that the vet gave me(3 times a day for 3 weeks) I'm more upset that we paid $2,000 for our yorkie and had to go through so much with him in just 1 month! Honestly with everything that happened . I dont think they should have sold him for more than $900! But in my heart he is worth every penny. I am too attached to him. Genie |
:( Some pet shops honestly shouldn't be in the business of selling dogs! There's quite a few YorkieTalk members down in the southern part of the US, perhaps they can lead you to a good, safe, reputable breeder in the future. As for Cookie, he'll be okay! He'll come out of it stronger! Have you looked into taking any action against the pet store? Not return Cookie of course, but perhaps get some of that money back? Or at least get the word out what they are doing is wrong? |
Genie ... I am so sorry that you have been forced to go through this bad experience with your baby!! They are so precious ... this should be a happy time for you! The more attached you become ... the cost will kinda fade into the background [it did for us] and you will look at your baby and say as we did "It's worth it all ... and we woulda paid 10 times what we paid!"! Experiences like this shouldn't happen! This should be the time when you're having so much fun training and getting to know your baby! Pet stores and bad breeders should all be "hanging from the yard arm"!! Villette ... your rope, please? Most of them have only one defense ... their offer to "Refund" your money! They count on the fact that just like J-Mac said ... once you hold them in your arms, you wouldn't part with them for any price! Even in those rare cases that the baby is returned for a refund, they probably just turn around and sell it to the next person who comes along until they get the right person ... the one, like us, who wouldn't part with that baby for any price!! Just be patient, carefully follow your vet's advice and just love Cookie back to good health and you will be rewarded with one of the most wonderful experiences of your life!! :) Who knows ... some of us may even be able to ban together some way and cause enough "noise" to cause stricter laws and maybe someday stop these people or at least cause enough trouble for them so as to discourage this sort of thing!!! ;) Meanwhile, please keep us updated on Cookie's progress and rest assured you remain in our prayers! :) |
Genie i'm not sure what part of Florida you live in but My wife and I live in Southeast Alabama and could put you in contact with a great breeder here close to our home. We had no clue about where to look and one of my wife's friends had gotten her little yorkie from this breeder and highly recomended her to us. So we were lucky to have gotten off to a great start with a wonderful lady who really loves her babies and when you see her kennels you will quickly be able to tell she's not the normal breeder that you here horror stories about. she loves her babies and really is picky about who she sells them too. I hope everything goes fine with Cookie. Keep us updated on how things are going. |
Doing well As far as his general health ,he seems to be doing very good. He is eating much more dog food instead of just home cooked food just for him. He's doing good with paper training. The part on his head with the spot...I'm putting his medicine on it 3 times a day. I bathed him in oatmeal & aloe vera bath shampoo for dogs. IT seems to really clear that heavy buildup of dandruff like gunk on him. But within 2 days it slowly comes back ,it looks like scaly stuff. I use a fine tooth comb and comb that part out.I cant wait for him to get over that :( . We treat him like such a baby. Everyone is always begging each other to be with him! I'm proud to say he is very attached to me :) So whenever I see him get excited and run to me I totally melt for that! We will probably get one much later on because just having one in our home is not enough. Besides this way I can have Cookie all to myself! Genie |
