Coughing in the mornings Just wanted to ask a quick question. I'm making Chester a vet appointment in the morning, but wanted to get your opinion in the meantime. I've done a search through the posts and found some info, but wanted to post more for my specific symptoms. Okay, Chester is 7 months old and as of Friday night has developed a cough. It sounds sort of like he's congested or has a hairball in his throat that he's trying to remove. He coughs almost exclusively in the morning, but will ocassionally hack one or two times if he's playing hard during the day. He is eating and drinking fine. He was at the vet on Wednesday to get his baby teeth pulled and I took him to Petsmart on Monday (which, if he has kennel cough, this is probably when he got it). Is it possible that the vet somehow damaged his trachea while pulling his teeth? Like maybe he or his assistant grabbed Chester by the throat? Just wondering if this seems like a far-fetched idea or if any of you have experienced something like this. Like I said, Chester will be going to the vet next week, but I just wanted some feedback from those of you who may have experienced this. |
hmmm...I'd definitely get his trach checked out. Hopefully, it's just from dry throat from not drinking. Keep us updated. |
I feel for your dog. It sounds like his throat might be irritated because they might have intubated him to pull his teeth. I have a 8 month old female that had kennel cough from the day I brought her home 5 months ago. She is just getting over pneumonia and the vet is reluctant to spay her now. The vet also told me that when they do eventually spay her she will have more throat irritation because she will be intubated for surgery. Hope this might help. |
Cali was spayed a couple of weeks ago and they said she may cough for a little while due to the anesthetic. Hopefullt that's what it's from. |
Allergies Sophie has been coughing, exactly as you described, for about 4 weeks. Her vet told me it is due to alergies...caused by the up and down temperatures we've had lately. He said it will go away by itself or he could give her antibiotics. We didn't try any medication, yet, but will if it continues much longer. |
