My 20% Yorkie....wat happened?? halo there, i am new to tis lovely forum. i hv a make yorkie STOUT (yea my nickname too) who is 1.5yrs old. lately, he has not been himself...eat as usual but has not been playing his fav 'throw & catch' game for the last 4 days. also, he sleeps and hides fr me alot. when i call for him, his ears will fold down backwards and at times, shivers.... :( I swear i love him like crazy and did not lay my hands on him....wat can be wrong. pls tell me... |
Hi When they behave in the manner you describe, I would hazard a bet he is in some sort of pain. If he is eating, defecating, urinating normally it likely isn't gastrointestinal or a bladder problem. It may very well be a problem with knees ie slipping patella's, could be hips or other. Are all his baby teeth out? Retained teeth can be a painful thing for them. Could be tonsilitis, they don't always cough when they have it. Ear infection? Are the ears emitting an odour? I would have a Vet you trust check him out. 4 days is a bit long for it not to right itself. |
My 20% Yorkie... Hi, tks for your reply. after reading thru, i came to recall 1 night he slipped and fell off my lap while i was seated on the floor. it was such a minor fall but he was whining in excruciating pain! i immediately calmed him down...after tat fall tat nite, he was nt sleeping in his usual place. then i woke up the next morning and saw loads of vomit. he can't eat and was inactive. i brought to a vet but nothing can be diagnosed. Yesterday, i brought him out and he was all excited but again, once he is at home, he started hiding. Appetite, baby teeth are out and stool and urine are fine too. Oh yes, last nite i wanted him to sleep at his usual spot so carried him out. each time i do so, he hides again. andd he only reacts tat way to me!! when my husband calls out to him, (I was sitting next to my yorkie), he was shivering!! gosh, wat happened? pls pls tell me more...i am worried. |
Another person on here said that she accidently knocked her yorkie off the back of the couch, and after that he would run from her and hide. Even though you did not hurt him on purpose, he still might think that you did. I would say hold him and pet him and get him to trust you again. |
Ah it is very possible he is blaming you and is a little confused why he was hurt. You can bring him back out of it. Instead of cooing and worrying, talk lots of happy puppy talk. He'll pick up on your worry and will react that something is wrong when it may very well not be. You have determined he is likely okay as long as he isn't going into any kind of seizures or anything like that he should be fine. If he was on your lap on the floor it wasn't that long a fall but likely hurt like heck and scared him. While you are talking happy puppy talk try offering a treat he can't refuse. He will come out of it I am sure. One of my Yorkies was only about a year old and I was picking some raspberries. She liked raspberries so I took one over to offer and as she stepped forward she stepped on a wasp and got stung. She took off like a shot with me after her and she was okay. I gave her benedryl and observed her that she wasn't going into shock or having an allergic reaction. For years after that if she saw a raspberry she would take off as she was sure it was the raspberry that hurt her so much. |
