| Leg Braces for Luxating Patella Hi, Mia is 5 years old and I'm taking her to the vet this week I'm suspecting Luxating Patella, she doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain but she is favoring her left hind leg. My question is have you used a leg brace did it help and what kind or brand did you use. Thanks for any information you have. |

I have been advised against them by the surgeon I have used since 2005 for all of my ortho pups, personal and fosters. If you think she is having issues, you could see an ortho specialist.

| Fabian is in the early stages of luxating patella. Three years ago, my vet simply advised keeping him moving. The vet also advised keeping him at his optimal weight to ensure no extra pressure on his legs. It has not progressed since then and he can hike several miles with me at a time with no visible pain. |

| I have never had a surgeon or vet recommend them. I would think they could actually hurt and cause issues to other parts of the leg especially if not something made or done by a specialist.

Yes, they can rub and cause problems. They simply are not helpful from what I have been told. LP doesn't bother the dogs so much...it is more the owners who worry.
