| Quality dog food with only fish as protein source I am searching for a quality dog food with fish as protein source, preferably NOT grain free to feed my Yorkies. They both tend to have constipation issues & in the past have been on a food with cod and pumpkin but #1 it is grain free & #2 it is made in another country.. I changed them to Royal Canin Digestive care. It has not helped with the constipation and they both have started licking their feet a lot! The vet recommended that we go back to a food with fish. I would love recommendations from a nutritionist but don’t know how to contact one. I am open to suggestions. Thanks! SWGAYORKIE |

| Wellness is a great brand. Have you checked out the Wellness small breed limited ingredient food? It’s salmon.

| It was recommended by Chewy. I called the company & discussed my concerns about the “grain free.” They assured me they have been on top of this for a number of years and add Taurine to their grain free foods. She also said that none of their food have shown up in any of the studies where dogs developed the issues after eating grain free food. At this point I think I am going to have to take a leap of faith & hope Nikki & Taz like it. Thank you very much for your positive input. Lisa |

| We switched to Acana Wild Coast a few months ago, it has few different types of fish and oats in it. It has a slightly higher moisture content than Farmina which he was eating before. Mike's not a big water drinker and his pee was always a bit more yellow on Farmina unless I mixed it with water. However once we switched to Acana the color became more pale, so it tells me he's more hydrated. Kibble is rather large in size so I break it in two every time which is a pain but otherwise its great. Mike goes nuts for its strong fishy smell. |

| Acana was on the list with other companies for their foods labels grain free, as I recall. Those foods instead of grains have peas/lentils as replacement. The one we give has around 20% oats and not peas/lentils and I specifically didn't want a grain free kibble when choosing it. Welness limited ingredient with salmon has peas as one of the main ingredients and it looks like there is no grain in it. |

| What do you mean by "it's not just grain free"? Kibble high in peas, lentils, chickpeas and potatoes are mostly grain free. Those ingredients are used as grain substitute. Anyway, the food we give has none of those ingredients. And seeing the OPs concern about grain free I thought it was appropriate to give our example, because when I was looking for fish based, non grain free, high in moisture, not too high in protein and fat kible made with quality protein source, there is not much to choose from and Wild Coast fits them all. I read the official findings you referred to last year and saw Acana on the list but I made sure to read it in detail. |

| It has those ingredients in very small amounts comparing to the main ingredients, small enough to not effect the amino acid levels, which is the suspected culprit of how nutrition affects dogs predisposed to DCM. In the last message I meant to write it doesn't have any of those as main ingredients. if you have personal trust issues with the brand than there is nothing to discuss, to each his own. I made a suggestion based on OPs first message, because I felt it was appropriate to suggest. |

| I'm in the process of changing Gidget from Royal Canin for Yorkies to Nulo Freestyle Salmon & Red Lentils for Yorkies. So far, her stools have become more regular and not as hard. Think it's going to be a good choice for her. |

| Using a food with a main source being lentils is really really not a good idea. It is one of the ingredients linked to heart disease as well as other main ingredients like chickpeas and potato’s which are also in that food. I wouldn’t take that chance with that food. I know your not real receptive to me but this is a serious thing.
