Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Do you feed each Yorkie a different food? Obviously my puppy is getting puppy food but I have 1 yorkie that is too heavy and 2 that are fine weight wise. My daughter thinks I should feed them all a limited ingredient diet because she took animal nutrition courses as part of her pre vet program. My vet recommended putting all of the adults on the weight control diet either through their current brand or another high quality brand. I’m not afraid to spend $50-$65 per 20-25 lb bag but much more than that seems high to me (I could be wrong). I want to feed them well and I have pet insurance and a great vet but my daughter thinks I’m cheaping out since I think $23 for a 14oz. bag isn’t reasonable and my vet doesn’t believe it’s necessary. My dogs are all healthy (a little allergies to weeds in one). They get glucosamine and chondroiten to support their knees but other than that, they are great. My oldest is approaching 5years old. Should they all have different foods and is it necessary to spend more than $25 per pound of food? I want to be a good mom to my pups but I’m not sure what’s best anymore.🙁 |

| $25 per POUND?!?! lol. I hope you don't mean that! lol. That's an extremely $$$$ food. Jackson's RX kibble is about $5.45 per lb. $41.99 for a 7.7lb bag. I think it depends on each individual dog. I feed my 4 year old cockapoo the same food currently because she has skin issues etc and the RX food works well for her but I do supplement with Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach and Skin because it's higher in fat - she is younger and doesn't need as low fat as Jax does (due to pancreatitis). If I was in your case, I'd probably feed the 3 adults the same food and just feed less to the one who needs to lose weight. Then feed the pup the puppy food for now until she's an adult.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I wish I was kidding but seriously, the food my daughter wants me to buy is about $25per pound. She is right, I do have small dogs but it adds up. Already there are toys and chewies and of course food. I try to do everything right for them. I want them to live long and healthy lives. |

| Mine all eat Callie’s prescription hydrolyzed protien food. I can’t afford for her to get into other food and they eat it so it works for us it’s like $42 for 10 pounds. When they were puppies we tried puppy food but they would end up eating the adult dog food. If you are happy and your pups are happy I would say stay with what you are doing.

| Yeah I mean there are certain brands or lines I am not fond of or wouldn't touch. But I've seen dogs thrive on all sorts of foods, especially as a dog sitter for so many years (I did it off and on for over 10 years). I've met 17 year old dogs who ate Beneful their whole lives, some 15 yr + dogs who always ate "high quality" foods according to pet boutiques, some who ate raw, some who ate non balanced foods (I knew one dog who ate primarily rotisserie chicken because she wouldn't eat dog food). You honestly just never know. Not that I am advocating for some of those, LOL... but overall, I have seen dogs thrive on a lot of different things. I think a lot greatly depends on genetics. Just do the best you can.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | The dog food she is suggesting is called TruDog. It’s supposed to be human grade but it’s supposed to mimic what dogs would eat in the wild. It gets great reviews but the price is insane. I also know that the dogs my family had when I was a kid ate Purina and table food and they all lived to be 15 plus years old. We had a lab, an otterhound, a poodle mix and a Pekingese mix. They were all very healthy and active until their last days. I think I’ll keep things as they are unless the vet suggests I change. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Agggh! I talked to my daughter today and told her I’m just going to hold where I’m at for right now and then she started attacking my dog shampoo! I give up...lol. I told her I think we’ll steer clear of doggy welfare talk for awhile, at least until she finishes with her current classes. |

| Sometimes those courses are sponsored by a certain product maker or company so they push certain products and facts to make it seem like the best thing. I have learned with studies, documentaries and stuff like that, that you have to fully know who is 100% behind them. Like there is some dog food documentary out there about dog food that bashes dry dog food and promotes raw dog food and its done by a raw dog food company. There is so much information out there these days ya just gotta be careful.
