| It is more important a young puppy eats then getting them on dry food. What are you feeding your baby?

| sorry I guess I have a question? is there anyhing wrong with feeding them wet food? ... The reason why I ask is because I have seen that a lot of people say that they have switched from wet, to mixed, to dry ... I tryed but I guess my baby Pebbles is just too spoiled and I love her so much that I have no problem with her being spoiled, so I mix her dry with her wet food, because she wouldn't eat her dry food until she was really really hungry and I didn't to have a starving puppy so ... I just take the extra time and prepare her mixed food LOL Last edited by Pebbles Mommy; 01-21-2006 at 08:05 PM. Reason: I missed a sentence |

| I've heard that it isn't good to give your dog wet food as it's bad for their teeth. They need the dry kibble to help keep the tartar off their teeth. Yorkies have a tendency to not have good teeth anyway so I read. Try her on a super premium dry food like Canidae, Innova, on & on. Go to: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php...z&naturaid=547 to the Comparison Wizard. It lists several premium/holistic foods to compare.

| wet vs dry There is a big debate about this and there is a lot of info out there to be had!! Old school is that dry food knocks some plaque off of teeth when in actuallity it isn't chewed long enough and sometimes at all to do any good. It is suggested that you brush their teeth no matter what food you feed and give them things to chew that will take the plaque off. So as long as it is a high quality canned food - which there are ones like the high quality dry without the preservatives, chemicals, and by-products and as long as you are brushing their teeth and providing the opportunity to chew than it becomes more of a personal decision. JMO. Someone might have read something else on the subject that I have missed - I would like to hear if someone has. And yes a lot of vets will still tell you that wet food is bad - but think about this too they still say that our babies HAVE to have the vaccines that we all know are not necc. the safest for them! |

| Wet food sticks to teeth and makes them more prone to decay. Find a good quality dry food that your pup likes and he will eat it. Run warm water over it to get him started. you may have to try several brands but there will be something that he likes. sometimes it helps to mix it with something you know they like. shelby loves cooked veggies so if she hasn't eaten enough i add some chopped veggies to her food and she gobbles it down. |

| My vet said only dry. Ukanuba is the only one with which I've had success, only, now Parker's stools are soft! I'm going to try mixing w/Science Diet, I think. |

| I give Loki medicine mixed with top quality canned food, just about a tablespoon every day. It's not enough to fill him up so he still eats his dry food. I brush his teeth every day so I don't worry about it. If you want them on dry food for convenience, firmer stools, etc. you can soften it with chicken stock (the good stuff) or water at first. If they hold out for the wet food, keep going with that until they are old/big enough to handle not eating for a day. Once they are, give it a couple of days and I bet they give in. I didn't let Loki get away with holding out for chicken or rice. Once they beg or hold out, it's a hard habit to break. Be strong! Also, Loki was never interested in eating his Natural Balance but he really likes his Canidae. Maybe find a yummier food and try switching (slowly) to that? It's also hard when they are teething. Good luck!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have tried with Cali to get her to eat dry never would. She was eating wet but reluctantly. Since she was sick last week she has been on hamburger and chicken, she won't eat the rice, doesn't want the chicken. She will now only eat the hamburger. I cannot let her go without food as she has had 4 bouts of hypoglcemia, one just last week. She isn't even that little, she's 4.1 lbs and I don't know what to do to get her back to a healthier diet! I have tried at least 8 brands of dog food to no avail.

| Gucci is over a year old and recently I switched her to Nutro lamb and Rice dry food. I use to always mix wet with her other brands and that was the only way she ate. Now with this brand she eats it alone and I am so happy it makes life easier especially if I have to leave her with someone . I don't have to worry. I still give her some wet food as a treat, I just dont mix it in anymore with the dry. So it does happen .... |
