Not eating So we brought our puppy home last Wednesday. At first he was eating his wet food just fine, but now he won't eat his wet food or dry food. He will try and eat the cats food, he will eat his treats, but not his own food. Not sure if I just have a picky eater or if maybe it's something more. I'm trying to avoid a vet bill but I'm about to take him in soon if he don't start eating.

You might try warming up the wet food a bit and/or moistening the dry. How old is the puppy & how much does he way? He needs to eat or he can get hypoglycemic. So, if you can't get him to eat soon a vet visit will be in order. I kept Nutical on hand when mine was little because she's always been picky too… kept the blood sugar up and seemed to spark a bit of an appetite.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What are you feeding? Are you feeding same thing he was eating at breeder's...?

We are slowly trying to switch him over to blue buffalo puppy wet food. The breeder had them on Beneful small dog wet food. We have been mixing his old dog food and the new dog food together but he just takes like 1 or two bites and walks away. The only time he gets a snack is when he goes to the bathroom outside, however I'm slowly backing off on the treats. We had him weighed last week when he turned 7 weeks and he was at 1.6 lbs, when we go to petsmart later today I'm going to weigh him again and how much he weighs.

Hope your guy is doing better. I had a similar thing happen. The breeder neglected to tell me she was giving her Kaol syrup and she went into hypoglycemic shock She ended up in intensive care on IVs for three days. It was touching go, but she survived, thank goodness! When they are that tiny you really have to be careful with their blood sugar levels.

We got him eating now. I think the issue is he dose not like the chicken flavored meals. I went out and got him some beef flavored meals and he's eating it. The other thing I ended up having to do is put a smaller amount on the plate and heat it up some. He won't eat it when we put 1/2 can on the plate not sure why.

He's doing better, I think we just have a picky eater on our hands. I went out and got him the Meat flavored wet food vs chicken. I've noticed that as long as it's heated up and there is a small portion on his plate he will eat it all. We have an appt with the vet this week anyways so hopefully she will catch anything.
