Spaying a 2 lbs Biewer Puppy Hi everyone, I need some help regarding spaying my 6 months old biewer girl. Unfortunately the Vet I visited a month ago when we got her I did not like. Now I have to find a vet I trust with my little one. We live in Queens, NY so I have plenty of options but they are not all great - if you know what I mean. The other issue is that on top she still has all baby teeth and the permanent teeth are already coming in next to them and they don't seem to want to come out. On the bottom she lost one baby tooth already but I can see the permanents starting to come in. So I'm assuming doing the two at the same time would make sense. Is it better to do it sooner than later? Should I wait until the permanents come in or before so they grow where they are supposed to? She is so tiny and I would be super worried to have her under anesthesia for that long ... thank you all in advance! |
I would wait until 7 months and most of the baby teeth that are going to come out will and you can get the rest pulled. Make sure the vet does pre surgery blood work and that makes the anesthesia safer. |
welcome to YT and congrats on your new biewer baby. I am formally from NY, Da Bronx lol. If you don't mind traveling into Manhattan, the ASPCA located on E. 92nd St off the FDR (aka The East River Drive) I heard has an excellent medical staff. I had a client whose dog darted from between parked cars into the street, was hit by a car, shattered her hip and had internal organ injury. The dog was taken to the ASPCA, my client raved about the medical staff. You can give them a call and see if they also spay. One must have 100% trust and confidence in the vets we use for our babies. |

I'm afraid a bit because what if the permanent teeth come in until then and they don't grow properly because the baby teeth don't fall out? The upper ones don't look like they are going anywhere, she has solid 2 row shark teeth lol :) |
Does it always take forever for the quote responses to post? This will be a hell of a long conversation. I posted over an hour ago and they are still not visible. |
Lovetodream: I totally understand what you mean and I'd want to go this route as well. She Ian so small and I just want to wait as long as i can. But what if they the baby teeth don't let the permanents come out where they are supposed to? The upper ones don't even seem to be wiggle. They are in here solid. She hasn't a mouth like a shark :) |
Matese: Thank you! I wouldn't mind going as far as it takes, really. Manhattan is not ideal since I'd want someone for emergencies as well. I'd like to establish a relationship with one practice and go there with all my concerns. Long Island or anywhere in queens would work - I'll get on it today and find a place. Hopefully I can get a consultation this weekend. |
Your first 10 posts will be delayed. moderator / admin. checks all new members to make sure it is not spam. After 10 post yours will show up as soon as you hit submit. I understand bout having local vet to use when ever needed. I suggested Manhattan for spay and teeth removal only. Females come into heat at 6 or 7 months, it is recommended to spay BEFORE first heat. Maybe tiny babies come into heat later then 6 months old IDK. All my girls were NOT tiny, well over your 2 lb girl. I would also like to say, I am sooooo happy you have a Biewer baby in NYC. I LOVE this breed and would LOVE to see it grow in popularity, this breed is NOT well known, so the more we have in the states the more exposure the breed will get. Good luck in finding a good vet. When I lived in the Bronx, I used one in Westchester county, Larchmont, off ofTuckahoe road, it was a 24/7 fully staffed clinic, it was a 40 minute drive but so important to have a vet that is 24/7 including holidays. The Bronx had no good vets that I could trust, so I understand your dilemma. Good luck. |
Matese, Thank you! I absolutely agree with you. I just Emailed my breeder to see what she recommends. She suggested to wait another month. That will give me women time to look for a clinic I can use going forward. I'd definitely prefer a place with emergency hours. Yes he the biewer thing is crazy. You can't wait walk a block without being stopped. At the Pet store? Forget it.. like celebrities. Hands and phones everywhere snapping pictures, wanting get to photos... I'm no thanks kidding, it's crazy. At the dog park even the smallest puppy is bigger than her and not all owners are cool, so there's always a dog picking on her - not a very good expedience so far for her. It would be great to find biewer groups in the area. Wouldn't love to organize meetups every once in a while. |

Not really sure if this is the right thread to do that. But I'll try (from my phone) She was predicted to get 1,6 kg (3,5 lbs) at adult age, but since shes 2,2 lbs right now (1,06kg) at 6 Months I doubt she will reach that. Originally I was looking for a standard biewer but fell in love with her coloring and eyes. |
Yeah, YT doesn't like my photos. Who the heck has 200kb images these days? ;) |
