Need opinions please, on Anal gland flush & infusion. Does it work & is it worth it? it's almost $300. There's no abcess but one side is impacted & has to be expressed internally by vet (once a month). Vet keeps suggesting flush & infusion. She also mentioned that it could be food allergy related. I'm rotating protiens, to see which doesn't make anal glands fill up but having no such luck. |
No experience with this. So sorry you're dealing with this though :(. I'm sure you've already tried more novel proteins like venison, duck, bison, etc...? Have you tried Know Better Raw Dog Food yet...? |
I don't have any experience with this either. Is it Mimi with the glands issue? Poor girl. I'm glad she hasn't had an abscess, but I can imagine it is uncomfortable and a nuisance to have to go once a month to the vet. Hope you can find a solution either with diet or the flush. |
I applied for care credit last night....will get this done asap. It might cost less bc vet was going to use a mild sedative when I expressed my worries (bc she's only 3.5 lbs) & that alone costs $50. Will forgo that & just trust the vet. :p Will update on how it goes. Quote:
Will look into Know Better Raw Dog Food, sounds very interesting! Quote:
I don't think her mom knew that her anal gland was impacted & it got infected. Not sure how long she went w/out expressing it. When I asked about it, she had no idea what I was talking about. I don't need to express Mimi's as often anymore. If I need to, she'll let me know by licking there but she hasn't done that in awhile. |
Happy to hear Mimi's glands are doing well. Praying for her daughter that all will go well with the flush/abx infusion and that the procedure will help her glands. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks Kristin! I'm afraid I have bad news....Coco has a tumor inside her anal sac. Vet saw it when she was doing the procedure (flush & infusion). I'm in shock & very sad...but I'm going to do all I can for her. She's only 7, going to be 8 end of this month. Hoping & praying we caught it in time. She'll be seeing a specialist asap. I'm linking an informative info about anal sac tumor & anal glands in general. It is rare but almost always malignant (so it can & does spread). https://www.acvs.org/small-animal/anal-sac-tumors Please pray for Miss Coco! Attachment 410590 |

Please keep us posted. Sending hugs to Coco. |
Prayers for you and Coco! |
I am so very sorry to hear your precious baby has been found to have a tumor, but thank goodness it was found. I will be praying for you & her. She is just stunning! |
1 Attachment(s) Thank you everyone! Fine Needle Aspiration came back as non cancerous! But we're not out of the woods yet. She still needs a CT scan (on Monday), to make sure nothing spread. Surgeon needs to see exactly where the mass is (bc there's lots of sensitive nerves there), so the surgery will be successful. It needs to come out or it can become cancerous &/or if the cyst grows, it could block her poopies. Hopefully this means she doesn't need radiation or chemo & meds. Please continue praying for Miss Coco. She'll have to be sedated for the scan...here's a pic I took @ the hospital. She was so stressed, so she was panting & shaking non stop. Poor baby but she made friends w/ the scarecrow! Attachment 410610 |
I'm very sorry that you have gone through this your adorable little girl. My little girl, Ashley, who is at the Rainbow Bridge had an anal tumor. It's not the same thing because hers was very visible, but she was around 12, and she lived for another five years. It was a painful and long surgery because of all the nerves in the area, but beside the pain, she did well. I will pray for Coco. I'm so happy it is non cancerous, and I you continue to get good news. |
Hoping the scan goes well! |
I am very happy to hear the tumor is benign! I'm sorry she has to go through surgery, but so glad her outlook is looking very good. Keeping Coco and you in my prayers. |
I am very happy to announce that Coco does not have cancer! She had the surgery to remove the affected anal sac & had it biopsied. No Cancer! Thank you for the prayers! |
PTL! So happy for yous. |
