| Night time regurgitation What would make a 4 lb yorkie "yuk chuck up" 6 hours after eating last meal around 7, in middle of the night , a couple times a week. Am in process of weaning over to new wet food ....very slow though, at present , one part new to 2 parts old. Should I give her less at bed time? New food is Evangers canned, premium duck and sweet potato. Wierd it takes 6 hours.... Thanks |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | She may have reflux. Vets recommend 1/4th pill of Pepcid for reflux in dogs. But, I'd probably see my vet first before going ahead w/ it.

| If a dog is intolerant of a protein or food, they will throw up, sometimes up to 2 days later. They can throw up partially digested food, undigested food, yellow bile, mixed food & bile. Food intolerance can also show up in their stool, it can be soft to runny. That's how Turbo was, he always stunk of bile, he was throwing up all the time, everywhere. Vets precribed pepcid & tagamet. I had him xrayed to see if there's any obstruction, tested for diabetes, liver shunt (BATs), even tho vets said he was fine according to his blood work. Someone posted about NutriScan & I got Turbo tested. He can't have chicken, turkey, venison & white fish...all the proteins I was giving him! So now I avoid those proteins & he has not thrown up since. For us, this was a lifesaver. If Zoey is displaying any of these signs w/no real answers from your vet(s) & there's no underlying medical problem, I highly recommend getting her tested w/Nutriscan. Here's the direct link: NutriScan Food Sensitivity and Intolerance Test for Cats and Dogs Here's Turbo's thread, post#10 has the test results: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-test-kit.html

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Why are you weaning to new food? You mean there was no vomiting before? I would back off the food if there was no vomiting before. Some people say that their dogs have had problems digesting sweet potatoes. How old is your girl?

Just FYI, Evangers was known to put proteins that are not on the label in their food, but since the scandal I think the company changed owners.

It is more a regurgitation than a vomit from the belly . Just once in the night 2 or 3 times a week. She is on Evangers grain free, premium duck and sweet potato half , and half yet the hills for about 5 days. Eating well again! Zoey is 16 months.....doesn't seem to have a problem during the day. I wonder if she is eating to much too late ....

| Any suggestions for a better food? I have read and read and read .... Just too much! I have looked at raw, natural instinct bites.....didn't know if it would be harder to digest.... Now studying probiotics....What kind do you use? Her poop looks good actually ....never too soft...or smelly... She's just reluctant to eat till I throw in a tiny peanut butter flavored buddy biscuit Going for smaller more frequent meals instead of the 2large , which for her is 3 tablespoons......last night went well... |

| Nancy gave some excellent insights into this situation...she could simply be eating too much @ one time. That will produce acid reflux in both humans & pets. My vet suggested splitting Turbo's meals into 3. They're still eating 3 small meals, every 7 hrs, it works for us.

| As she had the earlier upset for which the vet put her on the ID food, could she have some digestive issue that came back after giving her new, non prescription food? Perhaps a vet visit and blood tests could set this question to rest? Hope she gets better soon, poor baby. |

Zoey shows no sign of being in pain or sickly. Is very playful and energetic .....I never fed canned before the Hills , she just wasn't interested in it..and she knew her limits with how much kibble to eat. I do tend to think I give her too much, 3 tab. twice a day is still below the recommend 1/4 cup for her size .....but she sometimes leaves some . Like I said I will cut down and feed more often.and look into probiotics wouldn't hurt. What kind do you use? Thanks for your input

She is still on half of her prescription food to half of new. I'm being careful to pick a single protein and grainfree as it is. I just don't know......

I also agree that I would be a little leery of sweet potato for a dog with a history of pancreatitis. Hope you can find the solution for adorable little Zoey.
