Fish oil & Omega 3 ???
 
Does anyone give fish oil or omega 3 to their yorkie's? I'v been reading about it and apparently it really helps their skin and fur.

I found these on 1800petmeds, Super Pure Omega 3 Soft Chews | Fish Oil for Dogs & Cats - 1800PetMeds

Should I get them? Or do yorkie's really not need it?

I give Teddy and Toki fish oil for their coats. And also for Toki's joints. We use Nordic Naturals (the one in the bottle with a dropper...there are also soft gels too.) Teddy had a rough time with his skin/coat getting dry this winter and the fish oil really did help.

Yes, my vet recently recommended fish oil to help stave off the effects of arthritis in my almost 10-year-old. She didn't recommend a brand but those treats you linked to look good to me. I just squirt some I bought at the vet on their food. I have two seniors now and one with mild lp.

If so, how much do you give and how often and how do you give it to them? you just suck it up in the little dropper ad squirt it into their mouths?

How do they like it? Easy to give?

I give my guys Krill oil. It's not fishy smelling & it's potency is higher than fish oil. Easily absorbed by the body's cells & contains no toxins like mercury. I use NWC Naturals Tri-Krill & love it so much, decided to carry it on my site: toplinepet.com

Yup, that's the one I get. I do it daily (when I remember) and for the sake of hygiene and cleanliness, I drop the oil into their foods, not directly into their mouths. I give Teddy 0.75 mL and Toki gets 0.5 mL right on top of their breakfast (there's dosing recommendations included on the label). I used to split a soft gel daily between the two of them but after stabbing myself countless times with a fork while being half asleep at 6am and trying to puncture a soft gel, I just switched to the dropper bottle. Before I decided on the dropper, I also tried to give them each a whole capsule but only every other day...Teddy would pull the capsule out of his food dish and pop it over my carpet and rub his face in it. So I only did that like twice lol. Dropper is the way to go for us!

Seams like great stuff but a little pricey for me.

It does seem pricey, but it's potency is actually higher than fish oil. It comes in an airless pump, so it won't go bad. For a tiny Yorkie about 5#'s, it only takes half a pump (1 full pump for every 10#'s) It will last awhile! Just wanted to let you know the options out there.;)

I give Callie omega 3 during the spring, summer and some of fall because she has allergies that make her break out bad and it seems to help her avoid it.

I've been really pleased with this one...we've also used the Grizzly Oil in the past which was also good but the bottle is so huge (even the small one). And I also like how the Nordic Naturals has a dropper with calibration lines on it so I know exactly how much fish oil I'm giving. It's lasted a good while, even with two pups! I do store mine in the refrigerator because we don't go through it very quickly.

Do you know long to it last for, say a 5 lb dog?

Actually it is not that pricy when you figure you get 1 pump per 10lbs. of body weight to your' pet's food. Tri- KRILL™ pump for pets contains 500 pumps per bottle. So if you have a 5 lb dog it is 1000 servings.

That is not a bad price. Do you give it once a day?

You are right, I ordered the other kind for now. When I run out of it, I will try this one :) Thanks for your input. Thats very helpful thinking.
