narrow ear canals hi im not sure if this is the correct place to post as i have only just joined up,but i have had my yorkie as few years now as we rescued her but she has had terrible trouble with her ears,i have taken her to the vets who had said she has very narrow ear canals and no air getting in them will this eventually cause her to go deaf ,any help would be appreciated:) |
Hi there, you have posted in the right place and someone who has more experience than me will be along to offer advice. I just wanted to say hello and welcome to YT neighbour. |
thanks very much ;) |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sorry your girl is struggling with her ears. I don't have personal experience with this problem, but I do recall a Yorkie Talk member from South Africa whose dog had this. Here is an article written by a layperson (non medical professional) about narrow ear canals: Ear Canal Shrinkage in Dogs | eHow |
Welcome to Yorkietalk. I can't offer any advice but just wanted to wish you and your baby the best. I will keep you in my prayers and if you get any more info, be sure to come back and update us when you get the chance. My bf is partially deaf so I am very sensitive to people and animals with hearing trouble. |
I have no knowledge to offer but wanted to welcome you. |
thanks very much everyone ,she had a better night after her steroid injection last night and we have tablets to give her for the next month so im hoping this will help her  |

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but my parents had a miniature Schnauzer 'Sam' who was diagnosed with very narrow ear canals, and were told he had to have an operation to enlarge them or he would go deaf. At that point he was (I think) 9/10 years old, and my parents thought it a bit too late in life for such an operation. They ensured that he had his ear hair plucked monthly to keep them as clear as possible, and used ear drops as and when necessary. He lived to well over 15 years of age....and he never did go deaf :) I truly wish you all the very best in whatever decision you choose to make. Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
