SKUNK or YORKIE? My little girl is so smelly sometimes. It seems like when she gets upset at a squirrel or lawn service guys out the window, or scared of something she starts stinking (butt and breath). What the heck is going on? My other yorkies and poodles never smelled like this. She stinks like rotten shrimp or something. Ohhhhhhhh it's just awful!:confuse2: There's nothing fishy in her food. |
Is it possible that maybe she has expressed a small bit of Anal Gland Fluid? I know this can happen sometimes, when stressed over something. It does stink something awful. I liken it to rotten fish smell. |

Yep. My friend is a veterinarian assistant, and she has said that when they pop anal glands that it excretes a fishy odor. I bet that's what she's doing. |
OMG! It is the worst thing ever! And all she wants to do is be held and kiss me. So what do I need to do? Ay suggestions? |
My Wheaten Terrier had a terrible time with her anal glands, an oldtime pet store owner told me "too many fats in her diet". We changed her food to a fish (easy to digest) protein, grainfree based food with NO treats, or table food. I also gave her a probiotic and digestive enzymes. We now give her bits of fruit and veggies as snacks. |
I would look into the food you are feeding to begin with. A vet can express the glands for you. Some groomers do it but I would be real careful about allowing just any groomer to do it. |
