| Yes I've used her for years now and can't say enough good things. My dog Daisy is alive because of her. She's been a great help to me for my dog Barney as well.

| I was upset when you said that since I interpreted it wrong. Pet smart's Vet killed my cat I had before my dog. They are crappy there in my opinion, or my experience. I do shop there for my dogs needs besides a locally owned pet chain here too. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I like the Blue Buffalo. My two boys do really well on that and their stools are proof. Just read the labels and do not feed anything with preservatives or ethoxoquin in it. I stopped using Natures receipe because of questionable stuff in that. I hope you choose something really healthy. Go on line and see how the foods are rated. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What your vet is saying to you seems kinda off to me....? The food you feed has to work for your dog, not for your vet. If NatBal is working great for your kiddo, there is your answer as to which food to feed. If your vet doesn't like it, I guess he'll have to suffer through that terrible situation .

| Vets recommend those brands because they are the brands they have the most exposure to and have heard about the most. They don't know every brand of food so they recommend what they know best, regardless of whether it is the best food or not. As several others have said, use what works for your dog and what you feel most comfortable using. We are feeding Horizon Legacy and are very happy with it. I bet your vet never even heard of Horizon before and would tell me the same thing he told you. I would let him say his piece, then feed what I feel comfortable feeding anyway. I don't believe vets are the best nutritionists. I would consult a licensed nutritionist if you are in doubt. The owner of the pet food store I buy from is a licensed nutritionist and he recommends Horizon (his #1 choice) and Fromm (his #2 choice).

| A regular vet is not an expert in dog food and nutrition. You would have to go to a vet nutritionist to talk to an expert and I highly suggest that.

You need to go with what you feel comfortable with and what end up being best with your pup. It is good when you are going through food trials to withhold all treats so you can get a true reading if you will of how your pup is reacting to the actual food itself. If you are going to give treats it should be something like a piece of greenbean or small piece of fruit.... It sounds like you have made your decision to go with the Royal Canin. I would go ahead and transition him over to that then and see how that goes. I switched Riley to Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier formula after I brought him home. He did Great on it and I know of several other pups that do just fine on it. I made the decision to switch only because I thought it was a little too pricey for the ingredients. I went through a few differnt food trials until I have found the food that works for him in every aspect. Good Luck with whatever you decide. | |

| Long before I knew anything about dog food...I fed all my dogs Store Brand Generic...strangely, they all lived to ripe old ages...and I had very, very, very few vet visits for illness with any of them. All but one of my dogs died at life expectancy and usually older, honestly.... My girls both are on Purina HA...and they have never enjoyed a food so much ever, ever, ever...they love it and it is doing wonders for Mini...I have Mia on it too because they always eat eachothers food....
