| constantly worried....? hi everyone! i just got my furbaby 4 days ago... I am so in love!!! He is tiny! Sixteen weeks old and 1.5 pounds right now and according to the growth chart will be around 2.5 pounds as an adult. He is currently on antibiotics for kennel cough but everything else about him seems normal. He has energy during play time but also rests a lot. I worry about his eating-- he just doesnt eat very much. Im assuming it's because he is small? i feed him 3x a day and he will eat a little then leave the rest. I just tried half canned (wellness) with the dry food (eukanuba, what he has been eating). The day before i tried adding parmesean cheese, another time vanilla yogurt, and microwaving and wetting the food-- he never finishes! I plan to change the eukanuba to something better but will do it a month from now... maybe after he is done with the kennel cough. Otherwise he is peeing ad drinking fine. Also is pooping fine- about 2 small solid stools a day. Weight has never gone under 1.5 pounds since last monday. I also give nutrical-- at least 4 pea sized drops throughout the day. Any input?? |

| I'd just familiarize myself with all the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and check that baby even in the night once or twice but I'm a terrible worrywart!!!! I don't know what the appropriate dose of Nutrical is for your baby's size to prevent glucose loss but I take it it is what you are giving. The best to you and your baby! |

| Hi and welcome to YT! Also, welcome to my world Georgie was 1lb when we brought him home at 10 weeks. He is 7 now and his heaviest (funny term for him) has been 4lbs. Georgie would get a dime size amount of Nutrical on the tip of our finger twice a day. I don't remember when we stopped giving it to him I think it was when he stopped liking it. It was really like having a baby. My husband and I rotated coming home throughout the day and he was never home alone for more then 2 hours. I never wanted to risk hypoglycemia. Boiled chicken became our best friend. When he wouldn't eat his kibble he couldn't resist the boiled chicken. He still eats boiled chicken and still loves it I have a few of pieces of advice: #1 Any signs of lethargy take him to the Vet please do not wait. #2 Once you feel comfortable please switch him to a better quality grain free food. #3 Leave food out for him at all times. Once he has reached his adult weight and is not a puppy you can have him on a schedule. If you need any help/advice I am here I know exactly how you feel with worrying.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | We all worry about our babies. Especially when they are that tiny. They have tiny tummies And he is sick so they eat little. Just make sure there is someone keeping an eye on him. Also leaving his food out for now if he gets hungry

| Congrats on your tiny little love. Doesn't take long for them to totally steal your heart. I believe I have read where others with ones this tiny leave dry food out(free feeding) for them to nibble when they want thoughout the day. Others will likely give you some good advice. I just wanted to say congrats and hoping to see some pictures of the little guy soon.

| thank you all for your input! I definitely always leave food out. one bowl of his regular dry kibble and the second is the 1/2 canned and 1/2 kibble. i've yet to see signs of hypoglycemia (lethargy, something other than pink gums, etc) THANK GOODNESS!! I can't wait until he reaches 1 year old -- then maybe this worry will stop |

| I just wanted to say that it appears that you have done a lot of reading and researching. You are a very good mom!! I'd tell you not to worry (because I honestly think you are doing everything right), but it wouldn't help...we all worry. lol Congrats on your pup!

| You will always worry about your baby Giving nutrical when he is not having hypoglycemia can cause his blood sugar to go up and then crash making him at a higher risk for becoming hypoglycemic.
