| HELP!!! My yorkie will NOT eat or drink anything! Hi Everyone, I am new to this site, I found it while researching on how to get my Yorkie to eat and drink! I have tried everything and I mean everything! Every site and suggestion that has been made to others I have tried! I am currently force feeding and watering her, and have been since I got her two weeks ago. It's exhausting and I am worried about her =( I believe it's behavioral as she has been to the vet and is perfectly healthy! She weighed 1.5 lbs when I got her and yesterday she weighed in at 2.15 so she is gaining, but if I do not force feed and water her every two hours she starts getting weak and of course I did my research before I got her and am very aware of hypoglycemia. I had a teacup chihuahua for 9 years, so I am familiar with all the difficulties and took that into consideration. It's just that nothing is working and I want a healthy puppy that I can enjoy and play with instead of spending all my time feeding her. I have tried every food under the sun dry and wet, yogurt, fruit, parmesan cheese, baby food, different bowls, feeding with my hands, feeding at the same times everyday, leaving food for only 15 minutes, she doesn't even like the nutri-cal. I have tried everything and I mean EVERYTHING! I know she has an appetite because when I eat she tries to attack whatever I am eating...PLEASE HELP ME!!! She is 13 weeks old and was the only one of the litter! It scares me to death, I live in fear I will wake up to her in hypoglycemic shock so I can't sleep! I get up 3 times a night to feed and water her! I HOPE SOMEONE CAN SUGGEST SOMETHING, ANYTHING THAT WILL WORK! Thanks for your time! |

| I posted in your other thread, Probiotics, bloodwork, and xrays, and pretend you're eating her food, maybe then she'll want it.

OP, have you tried home made chicken broth (no sodium or onion or garlic) or the water left over from boiling a slice of calves liver?

| I have tried homemade dog food with chicken in it (I do know about onion and garlic) and she immed turns her head away and runs. Followed by her yawning spells, I have also acted like I was eating her food, no luck! I have not walked her outside but have played and ran with her in the house. We don't want to do the last set of her shots until she starts eating better. Why does she need an x-ray? What would they be looking for so I can ask my vet today..thanks ladies |

| New borns should be fed every 2 hrs around the clock. She's 13 weeks old now & has gained some weight, you must be doing everything right. Maybe she's not that hungry. How about feeding her every 4 -6 hrs? What did the vet say? You can always check her gums for signs of hypoglycemia. Too much nutrical can have the opposite affect, they can lose their appetite & it can cause diabetes if given too much. The 1st ingredient is corn syrup. Here's an interesting read on why dogs yawn. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/artic...tiple-meanings And while it's true your dog may occasionally yawn when he is tired, I have found that dogs will also yawn when presented with new situations, or when they're unclear as to what is going on, what's expected or what's happening next. I see dogs yawn all the time when they're conflicted. Behaviorists contend that dogs yawn as a way to neutralize a situation or calm themselves when they feel stressed, and that's been my observation. When my dogs yawn, it's almost always when they're anxious or are experiencing some sort of uncertainty. In group settings like obedience trials or obedience classes, you're likely to see a TON of yawning. These dogs know something should and could be happening, but aren't sure when it will start. In this setting, yawning serves to calm the participants.

| Laylas eating!! Just wanted to let you all know that I found a local brand of food that has been made just for yorkies, and LAYLA LOVES IT!! I feel SO BLESSED right now to see my little squishy just eating it up. I have never heard of it before but it is for puppies 8 weeks to 10 months and is made for Yorkies. I took a risk for my baby and BAM! As soon as I read stimulates fussy appetites I knew it was worth the risk. I am happy to say I can now return the other 6 bags of food I bought to sample! PLEASE positive thoughts and prayers for us that she continues to LOVE it! I am over the moon! Thanks for all your help!! |
