Pancreatitis :( Hey everyone -- I've been stalking YorkieTalk for a while; it's so nice to see a place with such a commitment to yorkies. I have a 1.5 year old Yorkie named Thisbe, who I love more than life! She is my little furry baby, a sweet little spunky girl, with so much attitude and life it's unbelievable. So much personality wrapped up in such a tiny little dog. But a mama knows when there is something wrong! Thisbe was acting fine, but then she threw up her food. I gave her a little NutriCal and an ice cube in her water so she'd drink (she loves ice cubes!). But she was just not acting RIGHT. After she threw up again, I decided that was it. I wasn't taking any chances. I took her to the vet IMMEDIATELY. An hour later, I got the diagnosis: pancreatitis. The vet seemed hopeful because her liver and kidney functions are totally fine, but I just left her overnight so she could get hooked up to an IV. They will retest her blood tomorrow and call me, but oh my gosh, I am a nervous Nelly! For those of you who have babies with pancreatitis... how have you dealt?? I am tearing my hair out right now!! |
I am so sorry about your little Thisbe. My Piccolo had pancreatitis once and it was so awful for her. She had to stay at the emergency clinic over Thanksgiving weekend for three days. I went and spent time with her everyday. Poor girl. I also felt like you, so very sad. She has never had it since, but I watch every crumb that falls on the floor now. Sounds like she is in good hands. I imagine the vets will give you a prescription food for Thisbe. There are members that have much more knowledge than me about pancreatitis and I imagine if you have questions they can help. |
sending healing prayers and wishes for Thisbe! hugs to you. |
Thisbe stayed at the vet for three nights. I picked her up, and she was a little lethargic, but otherwise back to herself. Until, all of a sudden, something just... flipped. She started acting VERY strange. So I took her back to the vet. She stayed there overnight, but I got her the next morning, and everything seemed fine. That was yesterday. She began having diarrhea, with a little blood in it. I called the vet to see what they would recommend, and they said to just watch her. But then, she threw up. I took her back in immediately. She stayed last night, and she's still there. They have her back on fluids, anti-inflammatory medication, anti-nausea medicine, and they have put in a request to do an ultrasound of her stomach. I went to see her this morning, but couldn't, because they were having an emergency with another dog. From their reports, she is still having bloody diarrhea, and she is still very lethargic. I am tearing my hair out. So worried about my little one. :( |
oh i am so sorry your little one is so sick. i am keeping her in my prayers |
Thank you for the prayers and thoughts! I took a break from work to see her, and she is clearly not really herself. They force fed her some very bland GI-friendly food, and she has kept it down so far. She is still having bloody diarrhea. But she still jumped up on me, licked my face, little tail wagging like crazy when she saw me. The doctor says she started barking a little bit today, too, which is a good sign. She's not getting better, but as of right now, she's not getting worse. The ultrasound technician is coming in tomorrow, so hopefully then, we will have more answers. |
