I forget why I never fed Nature's Variety kibble.... I have fed Nature's Variety raw though. Riley gets two walks in the city each day and an occasional romp and relay around my place with the ball.... or his hide a squirrel, or something.....but other than that, he is a pretty Mellow Yorkie... He is a cuddle bug or just likes chillin' and watching tv. At his first yearly check-up back in September the vet said he needed to lose about a pound. He told me to add a few green beans to his food.... he said they are zero calorie and basically by the time they finish chewing them, they have burned them off. I bought a mail scale and put him on it every once in a while.... haven't done it in a while. I will do that, first thing in the morning. Last edited by RileyDC; 04-16-2012 at 05:46 PM.

| We used to feed Nature's Variety Prairie (mostly chicken and brown rice). Never had any issues. One of the main reasons we switched was price after I became unemployed. Now I'm feeding Taste of the Wild and considering trying out Fromm 4-Star foods.

| The place I am buying my food from now sells Fromm and highly recommends it. It's only $3 - $4 more than TOTW for a 15 lb bag. I contacted Fromm and they are sending me a $5 off coupon in the mail to try their food.

Riley would not eat TOTW without me putting a little wet in with it... I would buy the canned Weruva... chicken. He Loves his FROMM. He's been eating it for about 3-weeks now. I do feed Primal Frozen Premade Raw in the mornings and in the evenings, too, if I remember to put it in the fridge before leaving for work otherwise he gobbles up his FROMM. I bought the Four Star Chicken A La Veg and the Four Star Pork & Applesauce. He gobbles up both.

| Official statement from Taste of the Wild Manufacturer: Diamond Pet Foods has temporarily suspended delivery of all dry dog food products made at its Gaston, S.C., plant, including Taste of the Wild. The company took this step because a limited number of batches of its Diamond Natural Lamb Meal & Rice dry dog food also produced at the plant did not meet its stringent quality standards. Immediately upon discovering the potential quality issue, the company initiated a voluntary recall of these batches of Diamond Natural Lamb Meal & Rice dry dog food, as announced on April 6. Taste of the Wild formulas are not subject to the April 6 recall and thus can be consumed as usual. Diamond Pet Foods is working around the clock to resume product deliveries to distributors and retailers. However, the company is committed to ensuring that the Gaston plant meets the highest possible standards of quality and will only resume full production when this can be assured. For more information, email us through our website at Taste of the Wild : Contact Us. We will communicate via Facebook as updates are available. |

| It seems rather funny that most of the issues I have heard about in the past have been related to the SC plant. I really am concerned about the quality of the Diamond foods though. The place I buy my dog food really tries to discourage foods that are made by Diamond including all the privately owned labels that use Diamond to make their foods, like Canidae, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, etc. They seem to push Fromm, Horizon, and even Precise products. We tried Precise and didn't care for it. The food smelled horrible and was almost nauseating. They also don't make a grain free. We decided we'd never get that again. The Fromm 4-Star foods are not grain free but seem to have fewer grains in them than most grain inclusive foods. I have been thinking of trying a rotation with the different Fromm 4-Star formulas. I like giving my dogs some variety. They get REALLY EXCITED when we get a new bag of food and can't wait to try it out!

| BTW, I'd love to feed Acana, but it is well above the price range I can spend. I was excited to start feeding TOTW but now that I am hearing of recalls and use of low quality ingredients from China I am rethinking that decision. The place I buy my food says their concerns with TOTW are the fact that it's made by Diamond, all the recalls and issues Diamond has had, the higher glycemic index of TOTW, and that Diamond sources a lot of their ingredients from China. This place sells Orijen and Acana and says they are very good, but they really push Horizon and Fromm. The 2 foods they are trying to get me to use are Fromm (4-Star) and Pulsar by Horizon. I haven't found any reviews by people actually feeding Pulsar to their dogs though. They said the Fromm would be an excellent choice so I told them I was going to try that next time around.

![]() Just switched the boys to Acana Lamb & Apple from TOTW Sierra Lamb. It was $17.99 for the 5 lb bag I got. I think I saw the bigger (15 lb) bag was about $35 or $37. Not sure. But it is cheaper the more you buy. I just can't use it that fast.
