Prescription Hills I/D Canine Food My baby has been having horrible watery poo for a month now...we switched her to Hills I/D Canine Food and I am just wondering when should we start to see some result of this or how long should we wait before we bring her back to the vet? I feel horrible for her and I am just really tired of picking up that nasty stuff...I need to know how long to wait....has your dog been on it for simular issues and if so, how long before you noticed any sort of normalcy in their bowls? PLEASE HELP! |
The vet put Kirby on that about two weeks ago and she had an antibotic too. She went to vet that Friday morning by Saturday afternoon I was seeing some improvement. |
If I hadn't seen some improvement in two days, I would have been back to the vet. Has there been no improvement on this new food? I'm thinking there may be some other problem. |
There is no improvement at all :( he said after a week or two we should see something...that just seems like a long time! |
Kirby didn't have watery poo that long. We wouldn't have been able to take that. Small dogs get dehydrated fast. Kirby was doing better by Saturday after being at the vet that Friday. Watery poo for a month is too long. |

A week or two is too long to see improvement. Did he give any meds? The canned food only helps give them nourishment because them poor systems can't tolerate their normal food while sick. Kirby's poo did firm up but she was on meds too. I don[t feel the canned food cured the problem. I think it was her meds. I could be wrong though. |
Our vet did test for parasites and it came back negative...My husband just stopped in to the vet to get some sort of medication for her. I recall the vet saying something about it being her intestines and perhaps they are inflamed so he was going to give us a steroid. HOPE IT HELPS! We will most likely be getting new carpet after this as well...oofta! Hopefully she just gets better...poor baby! |
When Rosie had issues with IBS, my vet put her on I/D. However, I was told to give her the chicken and rice first then we were on the I/D. I think it was within a week we saw noticeable results. I hope your vet can get to the bottom of this for you. Glad the test did come back negative!! |
Please get her off that food. If you can do research you'll see it's full of crap to be honest. Processed food is so much harder on a dogs system than raw meat so if she already has an upset processed food isn't gonna help maybe a probiotic once a day to stabilise her system and throw in a wee bit of cooked chicken. The protein will easily work through her system |
Your vet needs to figure this out today or a second opinion is needed. Watery diarrhea is very dehydrating. If it is happening daily I'm honestly surprised that your pup is alive. If the ID was going to work it would have been a long time ago. It may be something totally unrelated to diet. If fecal and Bloodwork are normal and meds with diet change aren't working then a biopsy may be needed. |

I agree I am not a fan of SD it smells horrible and dog food advisor says it is crap. However, Kirby ate it and kept it down. I still don't know if it was the food or medicine but I know it didn't take a week or even several days. I am thankful for that because I was up all night cleaning watery poo. I was sleep deprived at work and Kirby was miserable. |

I agree Teegy. Dog food companies should offer the vets a better solution. I still can't figure out the dog food industry. Some dogs eat foods that are considered crap and they actually thrive on it. I guess it's like humans, researchers are always changing what they claim is healthy for us.:D We just have to remember there is no perfect dog food. Regardless of the food prescribed no dog should suffer for a week or longer with watery poo. That is entirely too long . Another vet's opinion may be in order. |
