| Heart worm medicine for dog with allergies? Hi, I posted in the sick and emergency forum about my 1 1/2 year old yorkie being diagnosed possibly with hge. We are also trying to rule out possible food allergies or hair blockage in her gi tract. Shes had xrays, a barium xray, and explorariotory surgery and they havent seen anything causing a blockage. She licks the hair on her legs a lot and I have long hair. I noticed when they started giving her reglain a lot of my hair and her hair came out in her bowel movement. Which has caused me to wonder if there is hair in her gi tract causing her to vomit. (She was vomiting once a day and had two episodes of extremely bloody diahrea since the first week of december. Shes been on reglain for about three weeks and has only vomited once since. We have run every test and blood work and everything comes back normal. Since she has been on reglan she has been burping and it sounds like she is vomiting a little in her mouth then swallowing it. Ive switched her food to IAMs catfish and potato, which is supposed to be hypoallergenic, three weeks ago). I was wondering since it might be food allergies would it be ok if I gave her the heartworm medicine. Im also looking for any advice on her health since I feel like if it wasnt for the reglain she would still be vomiting. I read that after changing their food to hyperallergenic food it takes about a month for her to go back to normal, but I wondering if lamb and rice would be better for her? So my other question would be is it too soon to switch that food or should I give this food more time? Please any advice at this point would be so helpful! I dont know what else to do! |

| My dog has food allergies and intolerances as well as environmental allergies. We use Interceptor for her heartworm medication and have no problems with her allergies. If your dog continues to have problems with food, you could ask your vet about using a hydrolyzed protein diet which is a prescription food.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | My Taycie also has food intolerances, allergies and is currently being treated for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacteria Over growth). My new vet recently put her on Interceptor and I have no problems whatsoever. I have been very pleased. She is also on a hydrolyzed diet which has done wonders for Taycie

| My little girl is on iams catfish and potato as of right now. I read I should leave her on it for over 21 days to see if it is making a difference or not. I'm guessing if she's still trying to vomit then I try lamb and rice? The weird thing is the last two winter this has happens and then she is fine all spring summer and fall. Not sure if something during the winter is bothering. She's an indoor dog we live in a condo. Is the interceptor a heart worm medicine or a medicine to treat the vomiting? Thanks for the advice!! |

| Is the iams catfish and potato hydrolozed? It's supposed to be hypoallergenic. Which brands of food are your pups on? |

| Gracie has horrible allergies. The derm at UT has her on RC Moderate Calorie Potato and Whitefish. Since she is currently on a food trial which means no flavored meds. The derm prescribed Advanatge Multi for heartworm, fleas etc. It is topical. I think her previous heartworm was Interceptor which was beef flavored. I also have to be careful with anything she gets because she is a 6 month survivor of necrotizing pancreatitis.

| Thanks for the information. I'm going to have to call her vet and ask her about what kind of heart worm I should give her. Hers iams food is vet prescription only and I have to buy it at the vets office but I'm going to ask her about hydrolozed food. I was up late last night researching different issues with dogs and since she has had issues this winter and last winter but been fine every other season I tried putting that into google. It looked as if people had the same questions and the same symptoms but no answer to why the cause is. Thanks for all your advice and help! |

| My allergy girl takes Interceptor (beef flavored soy) and does fine with it. On a food elimination diet, a topical product should be used.
