| Royal Canin YT I would like some advice on Royal Canin YT. What are the pros and cons some of you guys have had with it and why is it or isn't it a good food? Maci is on Royal Canin YT 48 (I think that's the number?) and I have always fed ACANA to the dogs here, and I was going to switch Maci to the Grassland and Ranchland varieties as long as she takes to it well. Would it be a good switch or is Royal Canin a good one? |

| I feed the RC to my dog Teddy because that is what a board certified vet nutritionist recommended for him and I'd trust her over just about anybody else when it comes to feeding my dog. He's been doing wonderful on it. I still prefer home cooking for dogs, but for now, they like the nuggets and things are going well for them all and my schedule is too hectic to cook at the moment. Good luck!

| I would suggest keeping her on the food she is used to for awhile sense everything else will be changing and then looking at how she does on the food like how are her poos, coat, eye drainage.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I think the best thing is if it is working then I stay stick with it. If her skin/coat, eyes, poops, and everything is doing ok, then I personally would stick with it. I feed RC but an its an RX diet, however I am VERY happy with it!

| Well that makes me feel good then! I didn't know if Royal Canin was a good brand or not. If it comes recommended by active users here then I trust it as well. When I met her, her hair was sooo silky and nice to touch. So I'll have to watch her poops and eyes. Her teeth are pretty bad so once I get her a dental as soon as I can then I'd like to see the effect the food has on her teeth. I fed Acana to my tiny toy breed [chihuahuaxmaltese] when I was younger and after 2.5 years his teeth were still white with minimal brushing. But her's are pretty bad... so idk if it's just her teeth as an individual or the food. |

| Is there a reason you are wanting to switch? I don't have anything personally against RC, some formulas are pretty good, and some are good for dogs with allergies, medical issues, sensitive tummies, etc. But if your dogs are doing well on Acana, I wouldn't personally switch. The only main complaint I've heard about RC is it causes itchiness in a lot of Yorkies. Oh and a lot of the formulas are really expensive. Most of them around here are between $20-$25 for a 3-4lb bag!! I used to buy Acana (5.5lbs) for $14.99. But some thrive on it -- so it all depends on the dog! I just re-read, did not realize she was already on RC... if she is doing well on it, then keep her on it

| Yeah I don't know why RC is so much more expensive than so many other high quality brands. I used to feed RC when Uni was a puppy, before the price hike, and that was still about $17 a bag.

| yeah I prefer Acana over all just because it what I chose for my foster dogs and all did amazing on it... allergies disappeared, coats were healthiest, etc. and yes, i didn't realize how expensive RC was til just now... so that may be another reason! lol i think i will try mixing some acana grasslands in with her over the first couple weeks see what happens. my dh wont be thrilled about spending $25 a week on food lol |

| Yeah I know, I didn't expect her food to keep her teeth clean. I am just wondering if there is something about the RC that is making her teeth get tartar/build up so badly vs. other foods. Like I said with minimal brushing my tiny li'l guy never had the buildup like she does. I plan on getting her a dental asap, then I'll brush her teeth once-twice daily. I'm going to ask about C.E.T i think is what I saw mentioned here? |

| Also Royal Canin is not offered in the only Pet Shop here in town, closest place I have found it is a 2 hour drive away. So when I go to pick her up I think I will grab a couple bags of RC and one bag of Acana. See how things go! |

| I had Riley on the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Puppy food. He liked it.... and the Petsmart I would get it at could not keep it in stock..... I decided to switch to Acana because I wanted to go grain free.... and I could get a 5.5lb bag for around $14.99. I was spending about $20 on a 2.5lb bag. He is doing Awesome with the Acana. |

| Well that's good to know your switch went good! I will have to ask her owner if she has any known problems with other foods or treats etc. But if not, I plan on trying Maci on Ranchlands/Grasslands. I can get a 30lb bag for $40 or so... much better bang for the buck.. and like I said I've never been displeased with it. Seems like yorkies can become picky too, but I believe Maci has been on this food for 2.5 years, so if it doesn't make her sick/runny/etc then I'm sure she wouldn't mind a little variety :P |

| Thought I should add -- Bandit is 4.5lbs and always had stomach problems and since switching to Acana (probably almost 2 yrs ago?) they have practically went away! Bandit is Lauren's yorkie (banditsocks2). Just as an FYI It's been a saving grace for them!
