| Dropped Toby off at vet this morning Toby is getting his first dental today. What I don't understand is why I had to drop him off between 8-9 if he isn't going under until 1 pm. He does NOT like a crate which I am sure comes from being in a puppy mill the first couple years of his life. Why couldn't I have taken him in around 11 am? All he is going to do is sit in that crate and bark for three hours. I will remember next time to make sure he is scheduled for first thing in the morning.

| That is frustrating, but maybe the office does it this way so that if something changes, they can fit him in early. Making sure patients get to the office on time and juggling appointments with emergencies or cases that take longer than expected is a challenge. Look at this way, Toby is in a clean, safe environment. Looking forward to your update when you pick up your baby with clean teeth!

| Thanks Kristen. You are absolutely right and I did not consider all the other aspects. I was just thinking about MY little guy. I will definitely be posting when he comes home.

| Nothing wrong with that! Toby will do great. I was really worried about Max when he had his eyelid surgery because he is not a crate user, and the only time he has ever been away from me is when he was neutered. He did fine.

| Sounds normal. They usually want all surgical patients there in the morning. Vets have a block of surgery time and they don't want themselves or their techs to have to run and admit pups while trying to do procedures. Also during that time, preop bloods are sometimes done if they haven't been already, the IV is placed, sometimes sedation is given, a pre-anesthetic exam is done, the patient is prepped, etc.

| Man oh man I hope he comes home with some good smelling breath because it is really bad. I'm very impressed with the vet. She called me a couple hours ago to see if anything had changed since she last saw Toby before putting him under. I thought that was very considerate. Blood work was good. I doubt I will be able to get a pic of his pearly whites as he is probably going to be so mad at me for doing this to him. Lol. I am supposed to pick him up around 5:30. They want to make sure he is awake and eating before I come get him. I'll keep everyone posted and thanks for all the positive thoughts.

| Another thing: ask them how he was in the crate for that period of time. My vet knows which of my pups get upset and usually will do them first to keep the stress level down. Of course if an emergency comes in that may change the schedule a bit. Just kind of nice that they can try to get to the nervous nellies first. Some of them do a whole lot better in there than you would think.

| Thanks Linda. I will definitely ask them. He does ok at the Groomer but she keeps him and speedy in a crate together AND she keeps them in the same room where all the activity is going on and people are coming and going so he isn't in a back room somewhere with just a bunch of barking dogs.

| My little buddy is home. He is still groggy but he's fine. The vet removed two baby teeth and that was all. She said he is missing five teeth on top and two on bottom. She said some may have never come in. She said he has a lot of crooked teeth and they probably came in that way (thanks to bad breeding most likely!!! Thanks to the damn puppy mill he had to live in the first two years of his life. She said we will just need to keep an eye on his teeth. Glad this is over for hopefully a year! He has no meds to take and the cost was very, very reasonable....$213. Will post pics later. Have to make sure he doesn't jump off the furniture and he follows me everywhere. He ate a little when he got home and is sleeping now.
