Donating YT 30K Club Member | Does anyone feed the Hill's KD kibble? Nikki is on the KD diet from the vet. He has no teeth so I have been feeding him the canned. He eats hard treats fine and will eat some of the girls hard kibble. The problem I am having is my girls want his soft food. So at every meal time they won't eat their kibble until Nikki finishes his food and they can go lick the plate. If I feed Nikki in the other room Cali will wait at the gate until I let them back in the bedrom. By that time Roxie is eating Cali's food. So feeding time has become a 3 ring circus. I am going to be in Az for 5 days at the end of the month and my dtr will be staying with the gang. She is going to have a hard time with the feeding frenzy. So my question is finally, is the KD kibble large? I hate to buy a big bag and then Nikki not be able to eat it. But it would be a lot easier to feed him kibble like the other as long as he can handle it. Thanks

| Dudley is on the k/d canned. He just will not eat kibble very good. I have 2 on OM, one on Welliness, and Dudley on the k/d., so I know what you mean about a 3ring circus. Even seperateing them is hard. But, if your baby has no teeth, if it were me I would stick to the soft food. Thats just me. I would be afraid he might get choked. Hope whatever you decide he does well. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks! That's what I am afraid of too. I wish the vet had a sample I could try but they don't.

| You can ask your vet about this, but the big companies will take the bag back if your dog doesn't tolerate it.

| KD Kibble Hill's KD and the RC NF are a larger kibble and the smallest bag I have seen is 8 lbs. Zipp, my older guy, is on a kidney diet and I have found it easier to do just the canned KD. I too have to play referee at breakfast and supper times as the other three "Z" like the KD. They sneak a bite at his food and he sneaks a few bites of their food. I would ask some of your friends if they are feeding KD kibble and try a handful or two to see if Nikki can eat that size. Zipp had no problem but he still has a full set of teeth at 16 yrs old. Ask your vet if it is ok to feed Nikki other kibble for a few days if her kidney values are not bad but I would not try w/o asking first. Feeding Frenzy. Bob

| I tried googling to see if I could find anything on the kibble size for you (I didn't). But I did come across another forum where someone mentions that their dog likes the k/d kibble mixed with warm water. So, maybe Nikki could eat it even if it was a bit bigger than you'd like? You would probably want to make sure that was ok with the vet first, but it's an idea. Give him a big hug and kiss for me.

| My Sammy was on k/d canned and dry. The dry kibble is as big as an eraser on a pencil. If for any reason your dog doesn't eat the food, return it and you will be given a refund. After my Sammy passed away, I had almost a case of canned food left and half a bag of dry and I returned it to the vet and they refunded the money. So if your dog doesn't like the dry food, or can't eat it, you can return it. |

| I have two pups that are on RX foods ... I do not feed them in the same room with the othr pups. I have found that they will want anything that is different ... it really won't matter if it is canned or is kibble. They all go after what is different from what they are eating. I would simply put him in a room alone to eat.

| I would separate him, feed him, let the other pups see that he is done, and then feed them (with him still separated). He really shouldn't touch their food at all or it will start to defeat the purpose of the K/D.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks everyone! Most of the time I feed him in the bedroom and Cali and Roxie in the kitchen and Pixie in the living room. A gate separates them but Cali won't eat her food and waits at the gate. My main concern is while I am gone because it is hard leaving anyone with 4 dogs and then tack on the food frenzy issue. They also eat 3 times a day. Thanks Bonny for googling it. The vet said Nikki could eat either canned or kibble. I may try the kibble moistened and see if the vet will take it back if he has any issues. That's a good idea Crystal. I will try that. I just feel bad for my 3 since Nikki has come here he has taken over the spot next to me and attacks Cali when she comes by him. I know I also need to get tougher on my girls to eat their own food. Bob, Nikki's kidney disease was mild so a few days on non kidney food probably wouldn't make a difference. He is estimated to be 18 years old so I think for his age his values were pretty good but we wanted to do everything we could to keep it at bay. Thanks for all the input.

| My vets smallest bag was the 8 lb too. They did not have samples either. But Hills will take the dry bag if you can't use it. I know this because I recently bought the dry in the I/D. I was afraid Rosie would not eat it and the vet said the company has a 100% satisfaction guarantee or will give you a refund. Ended up Rosie loved it. I mix hers with the can and she does fine. I would try mixing the dry with something to make it softer. At least you could try the dry and if it didn't work out, get the refund. Good luck!
