Canine Tooth Question- gum turning brown... My yorkie is 8 months old. He has all of his adult canine teeth. The bottom 2 baby teeth have been out for awhile. He has both baby and adult canine teeth on the top. My vet said he would give him until 9 months to lose them before he'd pull them. Today I was checking to see if he'd lost them and I noticed that his gums right above the canines on one side are turning brown. It's just right over the teeth. Is this because the baby tooth needs pulled? Infection? Should I be worried? |
Is your dog a yorkie? I've seen mottled colored dogs have gums that were brown and pink, almost like the brown was a darkening of pigment, but nothing was wrong with the dog. Quote:

Guessing here.. but it kind of looks like tarter to me... But I am not sure... Maybe having a vet check it would be a good idea. That seems rather young to me though.. |
I posted this in your other thread -- but Jackson had the SAME crap on his teeth when his baby teeth and adult canines were in at the same time (double row of teeth). It went away when they were removed during his neuter at 7 1/2 months old. |
It looks like tarter or food gunk to me. Mine have had the same thing whenever they have both sets of teeth in. You can usually scrape it away and once that baby tooth is gone it shouldn't be a problem because right now the two teeth so close together is what is causing it. |
