Daily dosage of vitamin supplements HELP! Moe is 18 months old, spayed since he was 8 months old, and is still on the following daily: KAWU calcium phosperous tabs (1 whole)-in the hope to still be able to bring his ears up multivitamins + lysine(2ml) - as his daily source of immunization Question # 1 : Should i stop KAWU already? Yesterday, I bought a trial pack of ODORLESS tabs (that is said to contain fructo-oligosaccharides to eliminate saliva and body odor, eliminate bad breath, eliminate secretion odor, and boost a dog's immune system. I was told to give him 3 tabs daily (1 tab is 0.5g for 1 kg, and Moe is 3kg) I havent really started giving on this yet, because I am in a dilemma. Moe isnt that stinky but his poop is and his breath smells bad at times (even with daily toothbrushing) Question # 2 : Is is safe to include this in his daily diet ? I am also planning to get him MAXICOAT (a blend of fermented yeast extract with sesame oil, rich is anti-oxidants to improve skin and hair, to enhance color and thicken coat, rich in B vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients that gives healthy hair, shiny coat, and increases mental and physical efficiency) - dosage is 3 tabs daily Question # 3 : Is this ok? Moe is taking ROYAL CANIN Adult Yorkshire Terrier at about 75% of the prescribed level because he gets picky. I give him about 25cc (1.5 floz) of milk daily. My friend says I should already take out calcium because it will make his bones brittle. Question # 4 : Is his diet ok? Which supplement should I take out ? Thanks for helping me out.:aimeeyork |
Ok I think you should just feed him dog food. Here is my advice and I hope it helps. 1. KAWU: Stop the KAWU. If his ears haven't stood up by the time he was a much much younger baby, then you have a floppy eared dog. I bet he is a real cutie. 2. ODORLESS TABS: Stop these too. If his breath and poop smell he might do better on a different dog food. Keep brushing his teeth. I use CET Dental vanilla mint toothpaste on mine for kissable and minty vanilla breath! :) 3. ROYAL CANIN W/ ADDED MILK: Stop the milk. It's not good for him. Switch the food if you want. See #2 above. 4. IS DIET OK AND WHICH SUPPLEMENT TO TAKE OUT: Diet is ok, but see #2 above. Take out all the supplements. Best wishes!! |
I agree with Cathy. Question 1: Stop the KAWU and all multivitamins. The ears aren't going to stand. Adding too many vitamins to a dog's diet when they are getting a balanced dog food can unbalance the diet and lead to serious health issue. If you feel like you have to use something, then choose one multivitamin (not a cal/phos supplement). Question 2: He does not need this. If there are odors, then there are bad odors, then there are issues with hygiene or medical problems. Pups almost never just smell bad when they are healthy and clean. If the stool smells that bad, try a diet change. If the breath smells bad and you brush daily, then it's probably past due time for a dental. Fructooligiosaccharides are naturally found in some foods. A supplment is not needed to get them in the diet. Question 3: This supplement is not necessary. If the coat is dull, consider diet and overall metabolic health along with the grooming products used. An omega 3 product like Nordic Naturals Pet might also be an option. Question 4: Stop them all. Find a good food and stick with it. |

If he is 18 months old and his ears do not stand they are not going to no matter what supplements you give. My Bogey has a tippy ear and I think it's adorable. It gives him character and I'm sure your Moe is a character as well. Question #2 I have no idea what all of these supplements are for but if you are feeding a good kibble they surely are not needed. Question #3 His breath and poop probably smell bad because of the milk you are feeding him with is kibble. Moe is a :yorkiej: not a :cat4:......Dogs are not capable of digesting milk and giving milk daily is a horrible idea. No wonder his poop stinks. :( Question#4 I would take out all the supplements, use a good kibble, don't give him mild EVER and brush those teeth. On a side not about the breath~when he was neutered did the vet make sure he didn't have any retained puppy teeth? If Moe had retained teeth this would cause his breath to smell from decay and food particle being lodged in the baby teeth. |
Jennysia, the only thing I would like to add is: Maya was on Royal Canin when she was a puppy and she had dry skin and licked her paws and anything else she could lick. She scratched alot. I researched dog good and discovered RC is a 2-2 1/2 star dog food and when you read the label you will discover there is alot of grains and fillers in RC. I was surprised to discover for such an expensive food it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I switched her to Acana and less then 2 weeks her skin was no longer dry, she wasn't scratching and the licking of the paws (and walls at times) stopped. Look for a premium dog food with no grains, they seem to do much better! Also, even though, it seems a bit more expensive, they won't eat as much since it doesn't have the fills and they don't eat nor need as much. In the long run you will have a healther and happier yorkie..... Of course this is only my opinion and is not intented to insult many people who use RC, I realize many yorkie's are picky and sometimes that's the only thing they want to eat. If you do change foods, remember to gradually add in the new food.... |
