If she were mine, I'd schedule a vet visit for a urinalysis to be done. My guess is she may have a bladder infection and a simple course of antibiotics may clear it. I would do that before I did Proin or hormones. |

Btw, is anything odd going on w/ the amount of water she's drinking? Is the urine clear, medium, or dark yellow? |
hello all, just a quick update, we took Millie to the vets yesteray and she said she cant work out why shes having accidents and trying to hold her wee but gave her some antibiotics, anti-inflamatories and pain killers to see if that helps, she asked us to get a urine sample (from a yorkie?!?! easier said than done!) and also said shes put on half a kilo in weight since her spay and said she needs to be put on a diet?!?! im no professional but Millie is far from fat or heavy, infact shes tiny and extremely lean, she goes on super long walks and gets plenty of exercise everyday and hardly eats anything. the only real treats we give her are a tiny sunday roast dinner which is mostly vegetables! i dont get it! hopefully all these drugs will stop her accidents but im abit unsure about this weight issue, weve not been feeding her any more than we always have and she hasnt got a pot belly or anything :S xxx |

we havent notices a huge increase or decrease of the amount shes drinking as all three of our dogs share 2 waterbowls around the house and i think her urine is normal as its always been, shes fine in herself all be it abit more cuddly but shes eating fine and playing fine. Although the sneaky little thing, when giving her tablets she eats everything around the pill then spits it out! lol shes not daft!! x |
It's very common for pups to gain weight after being altered. Their food usually neds to be reduced. When you look at her from above after a bath (when her hair isn't puffy), does she have a "tuck" behind her ribs? The stomach area should go in so they look like an hourglass from above. |

She should be checked for a UYI |
Your vet is trying to make sure your pup is comfortable and that all bases are covered before starting incontinence drugs for life. A urinalysis should absolutely be done immediately. The vet really should have just taken the urine. Sounds like you'll have to catch it. Not an easy task. You can ask them to take it... |

yeah when shes wet she looks very hour-glassy, shes looking quite sqrawny in my opinion, she dosent really eat that much to be honest, we give her half a small tray of cesar dog food in the morning and the other half at night and usually has a couple (literally a couple) of dry dog food buscuits in her food too but she hardly ever eats her food, usually picks at it and the other dog ends up eating it all. the only thing she will eat is her sunday roast dinner every week which is usually a very small amount (tiny bit of beef/chicken, one potato, brocoli, a couple of carrots and some gravy) so nothing really fattening and its only once a week. shes only small anyway (9 inches tall from floor to shoulder) and we try to encourage her to eat. our vets have usually always been fantastic so im abit taken back by them saying shes gained weight to the point where when shes weighed next month if shes put anymore on, shell be put on a strict diet. if shes put on a diet she wont be eating anything! |
