my baby is sick :( :( Well, I'm a wreck right now. I brought Bentley to an E.R. clinic bc he was acting strange. I checked his temp and it was 102.9. He has been shaking all day and not his normal rowdy self. So anyways, I brought him in and they said while he was in the back he had diarrhea. We decided to try some antibiotics first and subQ fluids for dehydration. Also no food for a while to settle his tummy. If he isn't feeling better by morning ill take him to his regular vet to do blood work to check his pancreas. I'm so worried. Both are scary. Gastro inflammation is not as scary as pancreatitis. He is only a year old and weighs 4lbs. Is it common for them to have pancreatitis so young? Can anyone ease my mind or should I be terrified all night long? They E.R. vet is open all night so I won't hesitate to bring him back. Uggghhh...! So worried. :( |
If the ER vet thought there was a reason for you to be terrified, they wouldn't have sent him home. Could be pancreatitis, but it also could be a little tummy upset or something. Just take him back if he starts going down hill. Since they gave SQ fluids and antibiotics, he will likely be fine. |
I know how scary it is when your little furbaby is sick. Rosie has a very sensitive stomach so I understand. I think if they felt it was unsafe to send him home they would have kept him. I would keep a close eye on him and hopefully he will be all better in the morning. Keep us posted. Hope he is better soon! |
I'm sorry to hear Bentley's feeling bad. Kimbo's first gastro situation happened last Nobember when he was 1.5 yr.old. He has a SUPER sensitive stomach. As treats, we gave him Cheerios--plain ones and no more than 3 a day. My family was finishing up a box of Honey Nut Cheerios and there were about 10 left in the box when I went to throw them away. I gave them to Kimbo. Big mistake. Within a few days he was so sick. I sure hope the vet deleted my voicemail when I called early that morning because I was a train wreck. The vet said that Honey acts the same as giving a baby Karo syrup to help constipation. A second trip back to the vet, 3 different meds, 2 packs of potty pads and 7 days later my boy was back to normal. Everything is going to be ok. I wish someone had told me that when Kimbo was sick like that. Go see your normal vet, if you can. Try not to google yourself insane like I did. Odds are that he just picked up a germ that upset his tummy. We're praying for y'all! |
Thanks for easing my mind guys. I'm sure he will be okay. I let my mind run wild when it comes to him. And I certainly google myself insane. He already seems a little perkier. Maybe the subQ fluids helped. I gave him his meds and am keeping him close. He really is one of my babies and id do the same thing if my skinbaby was sick. I have actually. I tend to over react with them. I don't like feeling helpless and I always want to be able to make them feel better immediatly when they are sick. I will keep you all posted. Thank you again for easing my mind and calming my nerves. |

Let me give you some advice. I know this because I do the same thing! Don't google it. I have found that the more I google the more insane it drove me. You went to the ER vet which was the best thing in the world for you to do. If it makes you feel better, call your vet in the morning. But trust me, the more googling you do, the more confused you will be! :) |
I agree. Leave the medical stuff to your vets and baby your pup. For a few owners, Googling really helps. For most, it's just going to lead to worrying and confusion. |
