Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Tallulah Update I haven't posted much lately because there just haven't been enough hours in the day. But I wanted to post an update on Tallulah's digestive problem and see if anyone else has had the same issues. Tallulah has had chronic diarrhea since late February. If we put her on Albon, it stops the diarrhea within minutes. And as long as she stays on the Albon she's fine. She has had medications for all of the common critters, even though multiple stool samples and a swab test (yuck!) have failed to reveal any parasites. She also had a blood test for protein issues that came back negative. The last test was a panel that not only looked for multiple critters but the enzymes that they leave behind. All negative. We've tried several different diets, phased in over several days, but with no success. Today her vet recommended putting her on a limited ingredient diet -- Royal Canin venison and potato. I mixed a little bit in her dinner tonight, and she seemed to really like it. He says it's pretty unusual for a dog this young (just over 7 months old when it started) to have food allergies or sensitivities, but we've ruled out most of the common problems. I had a consulting vet go over her history with me and she recommended the same course of diagnosis and treatment as her current vet (our family vet was in the hospital when all this started and died a few weeks ago) and I feel comfortable that she's getting good treatment. Has anyone else's Yorkies had the same problem - chronic diarrhea with no other symptoms? If she didn't have the diarrhea, you would think she was 100% perfect. She is thriving - good weight, bright eyes, healthy looking coat, physical exam just fine. The doctors agree that we need to take this seriously and find a solution but it is not a medical emergency as long as we can control the diarrhea. So as I'm writing this, Tallulah just threw up her dinner. This is only the second time she's vomited since I brought her home last October. Guess it's going to be a long night... |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Yes - twice. Both times negative. She has had a course of Metronidazole and one of Flagyl as well. Fortunately the vomiting episode ended right as I posted last night, although T was very wakeful and barked at every little noise most of the night. She seems more herself this morning and we are just waiting for her vet's office to open so we can have her checked out just to err on the side of caution. |

| Is it possible that Tallulah has something like colitis? I hope she is feeling better. Sending hugs and prayers. |

| I am so sorry you are still having this issue How frustrating it must be to have a healthy dog in every way but that. I really don't have any advice for you but wishing you well vibes for T to get better.

I know my Annie who passed in December, had Chronic IBD. Her stool was always so soft. We had on the diet of Hill's RD, it was high in fiber which made her stool firmer she also had took Metronidazole every other day. Also we mixed in some Forti Flora with her food as well. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I am so sorry your dealing with this. Taycie has a super sensitive stomach. I have to be so very careful with what she eats or I will have massive blowouts. I just recently had her stool checked and everything came back negative. I have found Limited Ingredient Diets have worked best for her. Taycie was on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison and it worked wonders for her. I get nothing but solid results from it. I recently purchased a bag of Blue Buffalo Basics Small breed. This, was just launched recently, they added to their LID line and Taycie is in love with it. So am I as we have had no diaherra. I also recently bought a supplement from the Honest Kitchen called Perfect Form and it does exactly that... gives her tiny perfect formed poop. I think they are even smaller.. so far so good. I really am liking it. Results have been amazing thus far, and it gets nothing but rave reviews from many that have dogs that struggle with IBS and Colitis. Pet Nutrition Supplement | Pet Digestive Track Support | Perfect Form | The Honest Kitchen I am sorry you are dealing with this. It is so tough seeing them like this.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Re-reading my post I left out a very important part about last night -- T's doctor prescribed Drontal Plus - it's used mainly for tapeworms and whipworms. It's supposed to have side effects very seldom. Guess I was in such a hurry to finish when she threw up I didn't proofread myself. Tallulah was pretty hyperactive early this morning, but has calmed down now. I told her doctor about the vomiting, hyperactivity, and described her behavior last night as being like she was seeing ghosts. He had never heard of any of these side effects but the vomiting on this medication, but agreed that I should not give her any more, and keep her on the old food for a few days. I did a search on the medication and hyperactivity, and found quite a few posts in different forums about other dogs having the same symptoms. Needless to say, Tallulah will never be taking this drug again. In a few days we're going to try phase the venison food into her diet. I'm going to talk with the doctor about the foods you all mentioned. T tends to prefer chunky textured foods and turns her nose up at ground up foods, so I'm concerned that even the Royal Canin food solves her problem she will eventually refuse to eat it. |
