| Rabies question someone below asked a rabies question and i kind of hijacked but i think people lost interest so i'm starting my own thread. hopefully no one will mind. coco had her last puppy shots 2 weeks ago and is supposed to go get her rabies shot on saturday. she's 18 weeks. (hence i started my own thread in case i want to reschedule her appt) in that post ppl said they would wait until their puppies are at least 6+months. my question is why do you wait? I tried googling and it says 4 months plus. do you want to wait because ur pup's small? The previous poster mentioned that her puppy's small. I think coco's a good weight. she was 1.7kg 2 weeks ago. (i think she's closer to 1.9kgish?) hope someone can help me understand why :P

| My Zoe is 17 weeks old and just had her rabies shot today. She's 4.3lbs She's doing fine, just a lil more sleepy than usual and I can feel the little lump in her back where the shot was given.

| I didn't wait. I think people generally wait so the dog can get bigger/more mature. However, we do a lot of traveling with our dogs so I needed them vaxed ASAP. |

| Some wait because Yorkie pups are so tiny and the vaccine is potent. It can be a lot for their little bodies. Waiting would generally be considered against the law in the US w/o a vet writing a letter stating that the dog can't be vaccinated yet.

| i completely forgot about this thread :P lol i went ahead and got coco her rabies shot. i can't remembe rhow old coco was... maybe 18th week? (or maybe 17th) the needle really hurt her. The vet said it will hurt because its right in the muscle. but 10 seconds later she was walking & sniffing around the office no problem. but we decided to wait to get her chipped :P

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yep, this is why we waited. All of our kiddos didn't get rabies until 8-10mths old - and our vet understood.

| You can wait till 6 months if you want to, but by law it is supposed to be given at 4 months. You're safe having it given at 4 months, just make sure it's the ONLY vaccine given that day.
