| Yorkie with a infected tooth My female yorkie went to the vet last week and has a infected tooth! the vet showed me. It was yellowish/greenish in color and was towards the back of her mouth. The vet has reccomended a dental cleaning and the tooth might have to be extracted. Also the vet, wants to spay her at the same time. I am very scared about having all this done at once. I brought her in to see the vet for her rabies shot and a booster, and fecal exam. Now to know this. All of the surgery costs will be around 300 , and that is just a estimate. I am so afraid of losing her during surgery because she would be out for a longer time. Then the post op . I am also scared because I have heard that bad teeth , even though it is just one, can cause organ damage... I asked the vet about this, and he said that what damage is already occured that's all he told me. SO now I am a nervous wreak , thinking my dog is going to have a shorter lifespan |

| It happens. Just get it fixed. The chances of your pup getting very sick or dying from oral issues and pyometra are higher than the risk of anesthesia. Just do bloodwork first. A spay and dental can easily be done together. Pulling a tooth shouldn't take long. My girl had a spay, liver biopsy, and dental at the same time all while being liver compromised. Make sure your vet follows a good anesthetic protocol. The longer the teeth stay like this, the bigger chance that there will be organs problems.

| If her tooth is infected, it means the nerve is dead and the tooth abscessed. Extraction is the only option. It is very painful so I would get it done asap. Getting her spayed will most likely extend her lifespan, not shorten it. If you get her spayed before she ever comes into heat you will eliminate her chance of ever getting mammary cancer. You will also prevent pyometra, a life threatening uterine infection. |
